We already wrote the deep analysis of the world’s best-selling half-ton pickup truck, Ford F-150, for the next season (read a review HERE). Also, we had our view about the hybrid drivetrain for this model (check it out HERE). Now, it is time to check out rumors about the 2020 Ford F-150 All-Electric pickup truck.
It is still a far-fetched story. But, on the other hand, with the things happening in the Blue Oval company, it is not impossible to happen. Ford invests into electrification. Still, it is early to see the production of the F-150 Electric truck next season. The vehicle could appear as a concept. Whatsoever, it would be nice for a start.
The 2020 Ford F-150 All-Electric pickup truck is still a rumor. There are no concepts and platforms available for the public yet. Still, the Blue Oval company announced the plans, and that is enough for us to analyze the possibilities.
The truck is going to need a huge electric power source. These machines are working mules and the outputs must serve for the maximum performance. The 2020 Ford F-150 All-Electric pickup truck also needs to provide enough range. These factors are hard to reach at the moment, even for hybrid models.
2020 Ford F-150 All-Electric pickup truck vs Tesla vs Rivian
Tesla tickled our imagination at the debut of its semi-autonomous truck. Back then, we could see the easter egg – a pickup truck in the bed of the big semi-autonomous model. This was enough to warm up stories and the US company announced earlier that pickup is the priority. However, the schedule is not available yet. The 2020 Ford F-150 Electric pickup truck could speed up this process.
On the other hand, Rivian already presented its concept. According to rumors, the production is going to start next season and the vehicle is due for 2021. Chiefs said the model will have a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds. Top models can go 400 miles between recharges. Well, this might be the lead and the goal for 2020 Ford F-150 All-Electric truck and Tesla truck as well.
Ford Could Bring a Hybrid First
The new 2020 Ford F-150 All-Electric pickup truck is still questionable, even as the concept. The company is yet to deliver a hybrid truck, which is one of the priorities in its electrification plan. Over $15 billion will be spent in the next couple of years and we will see Mustang, Expedition, and few other models with hybrid drivetrains. The latest info says a plug-in is also an option.
The only truck with such drivetrain at the moment is Ram 1500. However, this model uses a mild-hybrid system that gives a slight boost to the fuel economy. In other segments, there are no improvements. But, this is still a good start for further development.
2020 Ford F-150 All-Electric pickup truck Price
One thing is certain about the new 2020 Ford F-150 Electric pickup truck – it will be expensive. Ford will have to get this model closer to its buyers, but the development costs a lot and there are many requirements the truck needs to meet. So, do not be surprised if the electric truck hits $100,000. Rivian said that their base model with the lower range is not starting under $70,000.
