The 2020 Hyundai Santa Cruz Pickup is official. During the next couple of years, the Korean carmaker will give a green light for the concept we saw in 2015. Only a few years later, the pickup truck became official and it will appear in salons during 2020.
This is a major step for Hyundai. The carmaker made a breakthrough with their smaller cars and crossovers. However, this is the bigger league. It is not easy to compete with the likes of Ford, Chevrolet, and Toyota. But, with such thinking, this company would never succeed in other segments. The 2020 Hyundai Santa Cruz is the truck to fear from. If it copies the recipe from other classes and offers excellent performance and quality for lower prices, then competition will have to react fast.
2020 Hyundai Santa Cruz Drivetrain
At this point, we have only the concept and the confirmation that the 2020 Hyundai Santa Cruz is coming. Further details will be unveiled as hints and easter eggs until the truck is out. The favorite at this point is a diesel engine. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain can offer enough energy for a compact class. With 190 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque, Santa Cruz would be more than competitive to Chevy Colorado and Ford Ranger.
But, the problem is emissions. Exhaust gases from diesel units are big polluters. So, strict regulations are not allowing these engines high emissions. Furthermore, the 2020 Hyundai Santa Cruz will have to turn to a petrol unit. That could be the reason why we will wait for the truck to appear. Hyundai is probably developing a new unit that will meet all requirements of the specific US market.
2020 Hyundai Santa Cruz Release Date in the US
Since it is confirmed for 2020 we can expect the Santa Cruz pickup truck during next year. The first appearance will happen early, in the first quarter of the season. However, the premiere of the official 2020 Hyundai Santa Cruz model will take place in the second half of the year. Appearance in dealership salons is the last step, planned for the last quarter of 2019.
The price of the new pickup truck is going to beat the competition. At this moment, the most affordable truck you can find is Toyota Tacoma. The mid-size pickup costs just under $20,000. Similar value bosses in Hyundai are planning for their 2020 Santa Cruz.
2020 Hyundai Santa Cruz Design
The styling of the 2020 Hyundai Santa Cruz will be pretty similar to the upcoming full-size SUV. These two will be the major additions in following years. We saw spied crossover, but heavy camo is hiding most of its body. The front fascia will be the same, while the truck comes with either 2- and 4-door configuration. Also, short and long beds are there at buyer’s choice.
Inside the cabin, we won’t see too many surprises. Hyundai vehicles are not offering too many premium and unnecessary features. The most equipment we find there is functional. Safety should be at the top level, as always. All in all, the 2020 Hyundai Santa Cruz will be worth waiting, since it will offer great value for its cost.
