The name is still questionable, but the idea is there. The 2021 Chevy Reaper is the production version of an old concept that should fight the Ford Raptor in the off-road segment. Call it as you wish – Reaper, ZR2, or ZRX. The truck is coming soon.
We saw spy photos of the beefed-up truck on the streets. Immediately the rumors started to swirl about the ZR2 version of the Silverado 1500 model. Well, we have such a version of the smaller Colorado. Meanwhile, more spy shots appeared of what they call Silverado ZRX. The prototype seems to be unfinished. However, in a year or so, the company will send it to production. The 2021 Chevy Reaper is an old name for an off-road truck. ZR2 and ZRX are just modifications of the concept.

The prototype is there, but everything else about the 2021 Chevy Reaper is a mystery, including the powertrain. The company is not making the development official yet, but it should happen soon. Some rumors are reporting the GM will go after the upcoming Ram 1500 Trackhawk. FCA is planning to launch the performance version of a truck with the Hellcat engine capable to produce 707 hp.
General Motors is about to respond with a 6.2-liter V8 engine. Without any boost, the powerplant is ready to burst 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. For example, Ford F-150 Raptor is delivering 450 hp and 500 lb-ft. But, turbocharged, a V6 unit becomes more potent and creates up to 650 hp. We see this configuration on the Camaro pony car. A performance model for the Silverado is the next to get it.
2021 Chevy Reaper Styling
Now, we have two approaches. Spy photos are showing a masked truck on streets and the plain pickup off the road. The second one is not finished yet, so there is no need for a camo. However, fans can spot the place for skid plates and large wheels. The old Reaper concept had a lot more upgrades, including special graphics.
The interior of the 2021 Chevy Reaper will be premium and sporty. The company is not leaving anything to the case and the performance truck must impress, not only with its performance. The downside of all this tuning is the high price.
Currently, we can find a few off-road trucks on the market. Definitely, the most recognizable one is Raptor, a special version of the best-selling pickup ever, Ford F-150. Also, there is the Toyota Tundra with a special package for all terrains, TRD Pro. However, we are all waiting for the Hellcat engine for the new Ram 1500. Also called the Raptor-killer, this one is going to produce 707 hp. FCA already sent some hints, and the most notable one is from the Ram 1500 debut when the clock was set at 7:07. The 2021 Chevy Reaper is not having an easy task, although buyers are not so keen on such performance-oriented models. On the other hand, they are paying nearly $45,000 for a full-size pickup. So, the new Reaper could have some prospects.
