Gladiator’s lineup is growing. The first truck we saw had some options, but the company added more trims pretty soon. Definitely, the most interesting one is the Rubicon. This off-road pickup was tuned with special equipment for the toughest tasks. Now, the 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Diesel is going to provide even more torque for extreme situations.
A 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine is somehow big for the midsize model. Full-size trucks are using such configurations with 440+ lb-ft. We expected to see something smaller, but the FCA decided to go with a potent powerplant. Still, the combination of diesel engine and Rubicon package was not available right from the start. Now, the 2021 YM is bringing this mix to dealerships.
2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Diesel Specs
The EcoDiesel setup is using a 3.0-liter turbo-six displacement in combination with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Rubicon is using a 4×4 drive, both with this and petrol engine. Outputs in the standard configuration are 260 hp and 440 lb-ft. The 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Diesel might get even more juice. Also, the truck is lighter than its full-size sibling, Ram 1500. It means a better fuel economy. Also, the towing capacity will get a boost, probably being the first midsize pickup breaching 8,000 pounds.
The Rubicon package includes a 4×4 drive and 84:1 crawl ratio. Electronic bar sway disconnect system will switch between high and low ratio, keeping the stability and balance in bumpy terrains. Differentials are lockable, and the trim also comes with skidplates.
17-inch wheels are standard and wrapped in the all-terrain tires. The company offers mud rubbers as well, and different rim designs. The most customization options are available for the roof. An open-air cabin is definitely something we cannot meet every day. The 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Diesel will come with the soft roof, but there are also hard tops in three pieces or sunbonnet roof by Mopar. The roll-on tonneau cover is the cheapest option, while you can also purchase a three-fold cover, soft or hard. Surprisingly, the bedliner is not available as the standard feature. Spray-in bedliner will cost $500.
It is up to buyers if they want to purchase their ride with or without a cabin. Either way, the interior will be covered by a cloth. Leather seats are an optional upgrade that costs $1,600. Buyers will choose between black and dark grey themes. Uconnect infotainment offers a 7-inch screen. It can grow to 8.4-inches with the premium package that also brings navigation and advanced audio.
The vehicle will also offer a few additional packages. You can pick LED lighting. For cold weather, there are heated seats and steering wheel. Of course, you can also enhance safety, or towing. Special features are available only via these advanced bundles.
2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Diesel Price
Rubicon truck with the petrol engine costs $44,000. If we add a diesel powertrain, the price should be about $5,000 above the starting MSRP. At least it cost so much for the base package. So, the 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Diesel is going to cost under $50,000. With its price and capabilities, we expect it to be competitive with the Ford F-150 Raptor.
