The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel is one of the stars of the upcoming season, although we won’t see big changes, either on the body, cabin, or engine room.
The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel relies on the same turbo-six drivetrain as Silverado. This is the class-leading motor in outputs. This advantage over Ford and FCA is not converted into the increased towing capacity. Both Sierra and Silverado are not at the same level as Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 with their diesel units.
2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel Specs
Under the bonnet of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel is a Duramax engine. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel unit is producing the class-leading 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Both F-150 and Ram 1500 can’t do more than 260 hp. Still, GMC tuned its truck to tow up to 9,600 pounds, while its rivals sit nearly 2,000 lbs above this limit. Rear-wheel drive is standard and you can upgrade your truck with an AWD system.
Denali Package with Diesel Engine
One of the most impressive combinations in the market is the capability of the Duramax engine and luxury of the Denali package. Both of them are available if you choose the Sierra pickup. Denali trim level belongs to the premium segment with ultimate upgrades, such as a 15-inch head-up display, or rear camera mirror. Plus, there is a trailering transparent camera, the option you can only find on GM trucks.
The premium package includes unique leather upholstery, 10-way power driver seat, and aluminum, wood, and ash trims. The Denali model comes with a special Damping system that will make a ride silent and more comfortable. A lot of storage compartments are available, and some of them are integrated into seats. Bose will deliver high-quality sound.
2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel Price
The base version of the truck is coming with a 5.3-liter V8 petrol engine capable to deliver 355 hp. If you are about to purchase the Duramax unit, be ready to pay $2,700 more. For example, the abovementioned Denali trim costs $56,300 if you want gasoline, while the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel Denali is starting at $59,000. The four-wheel drive is also worth $3,500 and this configuration is the only option for a larger petrol unit, a 6.2-liter displacement that bursts 420 hp. Prices for models with this powerplant and Duramax turbodiesel are the same.
Competition
Like for the gasoline segment, the GM fights Ford and FCA. F-150 is the undisputed champion and we expect to see it over 1 million sales in 2021. Ram 1500 became the second best-selling model in 2019, overtaking the position from Chevy Silverado, which is a mechanical twin to 2021 Sierra 1500 Diesel. Still, the pickup also offers the AT4 off-road model that will be able to compete with Ford Raptor. we’ll see how the situation is going to work out for the GM in the diesel segment.
