The 2023 Kia pickup truck is something we expect in last few years. But, it seems like the release date is never closer. Hyundai started the production of the Santa Cruz. Two Korean manufacturers had similar decisions in the past. For example, both launched the mid-size three-row SUVs at the same time (Telluride and Palisade). Now, it is time for trucks.
The question is – what it’s going to be the name? There are a few rumors. Mojave is a concept from early 2000s. But, Kia left this idea. A similar nameplate, Mohave is now in the mix. It is the SUV for particular markets, built on the ladder frame. Seems like a perfect architecture for the 2023 Kia pickup truck. The last idea is to get the Telluride truck. Again, not impossible, if the company decides to bring the unibody platform. Nevertheless, truckers would rather take body-on-frame architecture.
2023 Kia Pickup Truck Specs
The powertrain for the 2023 Kia pickup truck will be carried over from the largest SUV in the family. It should be Telluride that will share a 3.8-liter V6 mill with the new vehicle. With 290 hp and 260 lb-ft, the pickup is going to be pretty capable. Still, the towing capacity heavily depends on the type of platform the truck is going to use. A V6, in a combination with ladder frame, might reach 7,000 pounds. On the other hand, the unibody architecture is not so potent. The focus is on the agility and safety, so the towing capacity is dropping. Don’t expect more than 5,000 pounds. That is as much as the Telluride SUV can haul. An eight-speed automatic transmission is paired with a V6. All-wheel drive is optional. Also, the company might use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the alternative.
When Will 2023 Kia Pickup Truck Be Available?
This is a million-dollar question. Not only fans, but also rivals are expecting more news about the arrival of the 2023 Kia truck. However, we don’t have any feedback from our sources. On the other hand, no one denies that Kia wants to step into the new market. Plus, another Korean company is already there and Hyundai can share some of the solutions on the Santa Cruz with Kia.
Furthermore, the manufacturer already made a few moves, although it happened more than 15 years ago. Finally, existing ladder frame for the Mohave SUV leaves no one unconcerned, especially potential rival truckmakers. The Kia pickup truck would face more than tough competition. Leaders in this segment are Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Silverado. The segment revived, so we saw a few comebacks and new releases recently. All those things are pointing that Kia should give a shot to the new project.
Prices
The cost of the pickup is going to depend on the engine for the base trim levels. Still, a V6 is going to be a more popular option. At this point, we believe that unibody concept would be in use, so the 2023 Kia pickup is actually going to be the Telluride truck. The MSRP should start about $35,000 in that case.
