Chevrolet is not giving up diesel power yet, although they are building a lot of zero-emission vehicles. Big oil burners are making heavy-duty trucks leaders in towing. Also, Silverado still offers a Duramax mill. But, the best-known model will definitely be the 2024 Chevy Colorado Diesel.
This is the truck with the highest towing capacity in the midsize pickup class. The third generation didn’t change the maximum hauling potential, but you are getting a cool-looking vehicle with a lot of new technology. The interior is revisited and it is now more comfortable. The truckmaker adds extra driver-aid features to make the truck reliable.
Specifications
Under the bonnet of the 2024 Chevy Colorado Diesel is a 2.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It can deliver 186 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. What is more important, the towing capacity is 7,700 lbs. Jeep Gladiator is using a larger displacement, but it can’t match that output.
Engineers are pairing a diesel engine with a 6-speed gearbox for Colorado. By default, power is sent to the 2WD and 4WD is optional. Another cool thing about the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado Diesel is the mileage, which is way better than for gasoline engines. The best rating is 25 mpg, while it can also drop to 20 mpg for certain configurations.
2024 Chevy Colorado Diesel ZR2 Off-Road Package (With Bison Upgrade)
Such potential allows designers and engineers to create special packages. Enthusiasts are always looking for off-road ready models, and one of the best in the class is the ZR2. The only truck that can compete with it is Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. But, it doesn’t feature a diesel engine, which is Colorado’s main advantage.
The 2024 Chevy Colorado Diesel ZR2 will build up the Z71 package. The entry-level off-roader comes with special suspension, locking rear differential and hill descent control. Of course, all-terrain tires are standard. Plus, there are a few premium options to make the ride cozier. From there, the ZR2 adds raised suspension, larger tires, unique bumpers, bedliner, and an electronically locking rear differential. Bison is an ultimate package with unique wheels, tougher skid plates, and snorkels.
Other Engines
The all-new Chevrolet Colorado introduced a new petrol powertrain. It is a 2.7-liter turbo-four with three different configurations. The base one can deliver 237 hp and 259 lb-ft, which is a significant boost compared to the previous edition. From there, engineers are enhancing the unit. They managed to squeeze 310 hp, while there are systems with 390 and 430 pound-feet of torque. This one can match the towing capacity of the 2024 Chevy Colorado Diesel. It puts the future of the Duramax unit under the question mark.
2024 Chevy Colorado Diesel Price
In the previous generation, the Duramax diesel was a $6,000 upgrade compared to the base petrol engine. Also, it was slightly more expensive than the V6, which is not available for Colorado anymore. You can expect the same difference between the 2.7-liter turbo unit in the entry-level form and the 2024 Chevy Colorado Diesel. But, higher trim levels are available only with more potent configurations. So, Trail Boss offers 390 lb-ft for $38,500 and this system is also there for the Z71. The ZR2 adds an extra twist and starts at $48,300. Duramax setup can be even cheaper than those high-end petrol configurations.
Future
The truck is all-new for the 2023 season. Chevrolet delivered the third generation after 12 years. And it brought significant changes, on the body and under the hood. General Motors is electrifying its vehicles, so the 2024 Chevy Colorado Diesel is still doubtful because of the high-emission rating. Anyway, the company is not dropping oil burners on its larger trucks, so fans still believe the 2024 YM will bring back a more efficient and cleaner Duramax setup.
