Full-size half-ton trucks might be more popular, but the heavy-duty class takes everything to another level. Well, when we talk about utility. Smaller pickups are cheaper. Also, not all drivers can ride such tough machines.
But, when it comes to functionality, full-size trucks are not a match to their bigger siblings. A heavy-duty class will offer better towing capacity and off-road drive skills. The cost is higher fuel consumption.
Only a few companies are making heavy-duty trucks. Besides the big three players from the US, we have one Japanese carmaker there as well. The capabilities of these vehicles are close, so every detail could be decisive.
2019 Ford F-250 Changes
Shortly after the redesign of the best-selling truck in the United States, the Blue Oval company will revisit their Super Duty segment. The changes on the 2019 Ford F-250 are not huge. However, true fans will be grateful for every detail. They will spot cosmetic changes on the exterior and interior. The drivetrain range remains the same, so the new F-250 will have both petrol and diesel engines on the offer. Further updates could improve capabilities and comfort, although this is a very safe and elegant truck. Also, one of the major news for the 2020 season could be the addition of a new trim level – Ford F-250 Raptor.

2019 Ram 2500 Cummins Diesel
Ram 1500 stole the show at NAIAS 2018. While everyone expected a huge premiere by Ford and their diesel F-150, the FCA came out of nowhere with the new generation of Ram 1500 and a diesel engine. Also, this truck’s commercial appeared at one of the biggest sport stages in the world – Super Bowl.
The company now feels the momentum. They will try to carry it over to the heavy-duty segment. The 2019 Ram 2500 changes will bring only cosmetic touches, while the real deal comes with 2020 edition. This pickup could swipe the competition and we already wrote about it HERE.
2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 and 2019 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali
The General Motor twins are sharing most of the parts, so we will review updates on them together. As its main rivals, Chevrolet will also bring the new generation of the half-ton vehicle next year. But, shortly after that, the company is about to launch the new generation of heavy-duty Silverado 2500HD model. Changes for 2019 season are ready, but the GM will bring a serious update for 2020. 2019 Nissan Titan XD Heavy-Duty Truck
The 2019 Nissan Titan XD is the only non-American truck that can compete for these vehicles in the US soil. This version is tougher than the standard model. It can tow more with a 5.0-liter turbodiesel V-8 engine. We are still waiting to see Nissan Titan Diesel announced for the next season. Now, it seems the development causes a delay. So, Titan XD remains the only diesel truck in Toyota’s lineup.
The output of 320 hp and 560 lb-ft allows the 2019 Nissan Titan XD to pull more than 13,000 pounds. Unfortunately, the truck has no dual rear wheel setup which would increase its towing capacity.
2019 Ford F-350 Dually
Tougher than its sibling, the 2019 Ford F-350 offers a special dual rear wheel configuration. It is available only with a diesel engine. This model will be capable to tow over 30,000 pounds with a help from gooseneck. Conventional towing capacity is way behind, but if you choose to buy this truck, then diesel engine F-350 Dually is the best in the class pick.
The power comes from a 6.7-liter turbodiesel unit that can deliver 930 lb-ft for 2019 Ford F-350. Well, the truck will also offer a petrol unit, but it is not as capable as the diesel engine.
2019 Dodge Ram 3500 Changes and Specs
One of the best heavy-duty trucks we can find out in the market comes from FCA. It was the most capable pickup before with high torque output. Now, after some updates, the Cummins unit will be able to deliver 930 lb-ft. So, the race between big guns is going to continue in the next couple of seasons.
The 2019 Dodge Ram 3500 HD will suffer only minor cosmetic changes. But, the capability to tow is the only thing that matters. The Ram 3500 with Cummins diesel will offer over 31,000 pounds to its owners. Enough for a No1 spot in many charts.
