One of the things that are not going to happen is the 2020 Chevy Silverado SS. Rumors tricked us already twice – in 2009 and in 2014. Now, speculations are here again, but the company is denying the existence of such a concept. Few reasons why it is not likely that we will see the SS edition – expensive development, high price, not functional, not big interest. Yes, the concept will draw attention, but sales won’t be so great. This is a fact.
On the other hand, this version of the flagship truck could shake up things in the market and make a serious challenge to Ford’s supremacy. The other theory is that 2020 Chevy Silverado SS is already on streets under the camo. Spy photos of the next truck are likely showing the off-road variant. Instead of making the SS model the high-performance vehicle, Chevrolet could turn it to all-terrain variant.
2020 Chevy Silverado SS Comeback
The SS badge on the Silverado truck debuted in 2000. What a start of the new millennium. Buyers were waiting for three years before the company started the production. This time, it won’t take so long. If the 2020 Chevy Silverado SS is just a concept, we will see it on the streets in 2021. The first edition had a major update in 2006 when it was turned into Intimidator SS. But, a year after the refresh, Silverado entered the new generation, and that was the end of the SS version. Rumors started to swirl about the comeback in 2009. It turned out these were reports without foundation. When the same happened in 2014, fans lost the faith that Silverado SS will be again on the streets.
Possible Drivetrains
The new Silverado is using five engines across the lineup. The smallest one is a 2.7-liter turbo-four. Other petrol variants are well-known 4.3-liter V6 and a pair of GM’s V8 units. Another addition for the latest Silverado truck is a Duramax turbodiesel engine. Whatsoever, the company will have to prepare something spectacular for the 2020 Chevy Silverado SS. The only Super Sport model in the family is Chevrolet Camaro pony car. It tunes a 6.2-liter V8 unit to deliver 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the ZL1 edition supercharges the same drivetrain to 650 hp. But, this is not likely to happen. Well, the same SS treatment is possible for Silverado truck, but there are some other conditions the pickup has to meet.
Upgrades
The 2020 Chevy Silverado SS must use lighter materials for its body to drop some weight. Also, the look of the truck will suffer a lot to deliver a more aggressive appearance. It will also boost aerodynamic. Sport truck will be lowered to improve the airflow and overall performance. Also, unique parts will change the look of the pickup. We could see sportier bumpers, headlights, and Chevrolet badge instead of a bow tie logo. The unique interior will get sportier seats and advanced technology for the infotainment system. Max speed and acceleration numbers will depend on these upgrades. So, we can’t predict anything before the company makes the 2020 Chevy Silverado SS official.
