The ZR2 model for the Silverado 1500 is finally here. It upgrades off-road performance. But, the real performance truck that can compete with Ram TRX and Ford Raptor R. The 2025 Chevy Silverado SS will be packed with a supercharged V8 engine that can deliver 680 horsepower. For this class of pickup trucks, that will be enough. On the other side, rivals can offer 700+ ponies. We’ll see what GM is going to do about that.
The engine enhancement is a highlight. But, there are also many other upgrades on the 2025 Chevy Silverado SS that can help truck handle all this power. Special suspension, shocks, brakes, transmission, and other parts should make a ride smoother. Visually, the SS package has always been very aggressive. Well, it stands for the SuperSport.
The only question is if the company has the intention to join the race. Those super trucks are there just for show. You won’t tow heavy loads with them, you won’t go into the wilderness. These are capable for off-road drive, but it is too risky to go into the unknown with such expensive configurations. You won’t get a bargain for the SS truck.
2025 Chevy Silverado SS Engine and Specs
The powertrain of the 2025 Chevy Silverado SS is the one we can find under the hood of high-end Camaros. Well, the pony car is going to be discontinued and the pickup could inherit the powertrain. Cadillac Escalade V-Series already claimed it. A 6.2-liter mill produces 682 hp and 650 lb-ft. However, the price is over $155,000, while the standard luxury SUV starts at $85,000 with a naturally aspirated 6.2-l mill.
Another engine is possible. A 4.2-liter V8 is not as capable as the larger one. Still, the truck can get 550 horsepower. This is not enough to rival Ford and Ram. On the other hand, the Silverado SS would be more affordable. Either way a 10-speed automatic transmission sends power to all wheels.

Other Upgrades
The 2025 Chevy Silverado SS is not all about the powertrain. Yes, 700 horsepower is definitely a jaw-dropping detail, but there are many other parts that go along with an enhanced engine. Spoilers and other body parts are there to boost aerodynamics and performance, and also improve a visual appearance. The previous Silverado SS was packed with special features and parts. The new one is completely different. There were no SuperSport models in the past few years we can use as a comparison for the upcoming truck. The new Blazer SUV offers the SS trim, but only for an EV.
2025 Chevy Silverado SS Release Date
If Chevrolet wants to be competitive, they will have to launch a performance package. Ram TRX and Ford Raptor already took advantage. If GM doesn’t launch the 2025 Chevy Silverado SS, we can probably forget about this version. All cards will be put into the electric truck. Silverado EV concept is real, while the SS pickup is just a rumor, although it existed 20 years ago. The price is not cheap – do not expect it under $90,000. Depending on upgrades, GM could make the Silverado performance pickup even more expensive than the Raptor R.
