General Motors is testing the new Silverado. It is a monster edition that will rival the Ford F-150 Raptor. ZR2 package is the meanest suite of features any Chevrolet’s vehicle can get (similar to TRD Pro we see on Toyota’s). Until the new truck is confirmed, the 2020 Chevy Silverado Z71 will be the best off-roader in the lineup. Built on the LT trim, this package adds numerous features that will boost the performance and the look.
Compared to the rest of the lineup, we can say this is the most interesting model. The 2020 Chevy Silverado Z71 offers elements that will make it looks distinctive and different from the rest of the lineup. On the other hand, the engine choice is an existing V8. If you thought the GM engineers are going after the largest possible unit for this version, you are wrong. LT and Z71 version will use a 5.3-liter engine. Of course, there are plenty of other upgrades to the entire drive system to make this truck capable of doing off-road tasks.
2020 Chevy Silverado Z71 Specs
Before we move to the unique upgrades the 2020 Chevy Silverado Z71 off-road package will bring, let’s see what will power this pickup. Under the bonnet is a 5.3-liter V8 engine with capability to produce 355 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque. It is enough to tow nearly 12,000 pounds. On the other hand, the fuel economy is not for bragging. Silverado will return only 17/18 mpg with this engine, and when you install the Z71 suite, the mileage drops by 1 point. All-wheel drive is standard, and the LT package includes Dynamic Fuel Management to improve these numbers becoming even worse.
Upgrades For the Z71
As said, the 2020 Chevy Silverado Z71 will be an upgrade of the LT trim level. Besides the features it carries over, there is a long list of unique equipment for this truck. Instead of 17, the Z71 truck brings 18-inch wheels wrapped with all-terrain rubber. Visual details are tiny, but still distinctive, such as headlamps bezels and grille surround in body color. Recovery hooks and fog lamps are standard. Inside, this trim level changes gauges and other parts of the control panel.
More important are drivetrain upgrades. The locking rear differential and trailering package are the things that will make the 2020 Chevy Silverado Z71 meaner. Also, there are hill descent control and transfer case protector under the body. Rancho monotube shocks are part of the new suspension system the package is delivering to its buyers.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 Price
The new Silverado 1500 truck is going to cost at least $30,000. But, to get to the Z71 package, you will have to pick the LT model. The base version, without upgrades, will have a $45,000 price tag. The Z71 Off-Road and Protection package for the new season costs $2,430. There are some discounts available every now and then, so keep your eye on the offer sheet. The price could drop under $2,000 and that is a significant saving. Fully equipped, the 2020 Chevy Silverado Z71 will be a rival to Ford Raptor. However, it is not as exciting as the upcoming ZR2 version.
