Renault and Nissan are upgrading their alliance to new levels, new markets, and new vehicles. The latest model that will take advantage of Nissan’s experience is the 2020 Renault Alaskan pickup truck. The French carmaker is going to deliver this unit to Europe and a few other markets. Launched in 2017, the vehicle is now entering the new generation, heavily based on the most popular truck worldwide – Nissan Navara.
Well, the first edition of the French pickup vehicle already used the same platform as its Japanese sibling. Whatsoever, the next one will be nearly rebadged version of Navara. On the other hand, Renault is going to leave its marks inside the cabin. We all know that French companies are the best-known for comfort. Navara with an upper-scale interior – it sounds a blast already.
2020 Renault Alaskan Specs
The engine lineup of Nissan Navara and Renault’s future plans are somehow bugging fans. There are three diesel units available for the truck, and only one petrol drivetrain. The French company is giving its best to cut emissions and make environmental-friendly vehicles. Also, the French government initiated the plan to electrify the entire market by 2030. Well, it is a long shot, but sooner or later electric vehicles will take over.
Until then, the 2020 Renault Alaskan will use a 2.3-liter and 2.5-liter diesel engines. Buyers are buying these models and the company will try to generate as much profit as possible while diesel units are still available. A 2.3-l mill can deliver between 160 and 190 hp and 300-330 lb-ft. It is the first drivetrain that was available for the previous generation of Alaskan. The other solution is Nissan’s 2.5-l engine with 145 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.
A petrol engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder pot which is capable to produce 175 hp and 180 pound-feet of twist. All engines are using either 7-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. Buyers can also choose between 2WD and 4WD.
Hybrid
It is not impossible to see the hybrid truck in the near future. Well, Nissan is a leader in this segment, Just for the record, its Leaf is the best-selling electric vehicle ever. Now, they will try to set up the challenge to other leading truckmakers by delivering the hybrid drivetrain. The 2020 Renault Alaskan can take advantage of this by borrowing the system for its engine room.
Restyling
Renault has revealed all the images and preliminary data of the first major update. Alaskan, the medium-sized pickup will receive some aesthetic touches and notable improvements in several sections. The 2020 Renault Alaskan is now more muscular thanks to more prominent wheel arches and the new larger wheels. The company is not offering more details, but we can hear from rumors the truck will get improved suspension and braking systems, including automatic emergency braking system for higher trim levels.
2020 Renault Alaskan Release Date
With teaser images already out, we can expect to see the new 2020 Renault Alaskan very soon. The same is happening with Nissan Navara, whose redesign is also close. The truck dates back from 2014 and it is about the time for changes. The new Alaskan will keep the current price, but the vehicle is going to be available in more markets. Navara’s platform is also underpinning the first Mercedes’ truck, X-Class.
