Companies that produce trucks continue their battle. They raised the stakes by launching diesel full-size pickups. Now, it is time for a totally different class. News about the 2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid is not a surprise. Ford is announcing its F-150 Hybrid. Ram already offers a mild-hybrid version of their full-size truck. So, General Motors joins the show and the first update of the new generation of Silverado 1500 will bring such drivetrain.
However, there are no further details about the 2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid. No concept, no spy photos. Well, the hybrid pickup will get the same body as the conventional engine. Electric batteries are going to each axle. We would also like to know what engine the GM is going to hybridize. Also, which cab configuration and trim level will be the starting one for the Silverado 1500 Hybrid? A lot of question and time is ahead of fans…
2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid Based on the V6
The fourth generation of the legendary truck is now available for purchase. Fans are pretty disappointed with a diesel engine still missing from the lineup Well, other two companies also didn’t start selling their diesel units. However, the 2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid is not going to be diesel-hybrid. Engineers will pick up one of the existing petrol units to electrify it with a pair of batteries.
There are four different engines in the current Silverado 1500’s lineup. The freshest one is a turbo-four. Forget about this one. It is turbocharged so it can achieve respectable power outputs. There is also a pair of V8. These are too big. Only mild-hybrid setups are possible for these, and that wouldn’t be the real deal. The fourth powertrain is a 4.3-l V6.
We could hear rumors that Company wants to get rid of this one. However, a 4.3 engine is still here, and it will be for the next couple of years. This is the perfect choice to build a hybrid. By attaching electric motors, a V6 can only get a better fuel economy and slightly higher outputs. If you need more power for towing, then choose one of the V8s. If you don’t care about it, then four-cylinder is the one you should drive. But, a V6 hybrid offers a perfect balance of energy and fuel consumption.
A 4.3-liter engine is capable to produce 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. The 2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid will get at least 10 ponies more. It attaches electric motors to both axles, which means the new truck will get an all-wheel drive. This combination of the petrol unit returned around 20 mpg. With a hybrid setup, the average gas mileage of the pickup will jump to at least 22 mpg.
2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid Release Date
This is speculation. But, it is based on the true story. Chiefs explained that the new generation of the Silverado truck is capable to take any kind of engines. Well, you can say – they didn’t say it is happening, right? But, sometimes, these interviews are bringing messages between the lines. Experts are sure they were talking about the expansion of the lineup to the hybrid segment. Well, the release date is pure speculation. It is late for 2019, and the company would probably make it official for 2020. Engineers have a year to develop the pickup and announce it as 2021 Chevy Silverado Hybrid.
