Diesel is finally available for the most popular pickup truck ever. The Powerstroke engine is making the F-150 more capable. The Blue Oval company speeded up the development to catch up with the competition. The 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel is coming unchanged compared to the predecessor.
A diesel engine is available for the XLT and higher trims, not the base XL. There will be plenty of options to build up the base version. However, the Powerstroke unit costs $5,000 more than the standard offer. Ford made a 3.3-liter V6 the entry-level powerplant. The biggest question about the 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel is availability for the Raptor trim. We are not so sure if this is happening.
2021 Ford F-150 Diesel Specs
Under the hood of this truck is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel unit. A V6 is capable to produce 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. This is enough to boost the fuel economy to 30 mpg on highways. The Powerstroke unit is mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. It maximizes the towing capacity to 11,500 pounds. The only unit in the rest of the lineup to top that is a huge V8 motor with 11,600 lbs.
2021 Ford F-150 Diesel Raptor
The twin-turbo V6 is the only option for the Raptor. It is capable to battle against the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. The Powerstroke unit will leave this model in the dust. Raptor version also comes with the Fox monotube shocks which maximize the off-road capability. The cruise control maximizes trailing and underbody protection is boosted with skid plates.
Unique features for the Raptor model will be carried over if the diesel engine becomes available. Bed divider, foldable box extender, and spray-in bedliner are there for the special version of the truck. The unique grille is the first thing you can spot on the truck. Instead of the classic design, this model uses the large Ford badge. Twin Panel Moonroof is optional, as well as the 8-inch screen with the premium audio system by B&O.
Competition
The 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel will compete with Ram 1500 and Silverado 1500. Its archrivals are there again, but the Blue Oval company is untouchable. Well, its opponents can produce more power. For example, Silverado Diesel is coming with 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Ram 1500 produces 460 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, which is good for the class-leading 12,560 pounds of towing capacity. Silverado’s extra power is not converted to the better hauling, with only 9,300 lbs.
2021 Ford F-150 Diesel Price
When you choose the XLT model and Crew Cab, the 2021 Ford F-150 Diesel will cost you $47,000. Going up the trim levels, the Lariat is coming with more options and it adds only $4,000. King Ranch and Premium versions are the luxury offering with prices close to $60k.
The current model for the 2020 season is still fresh. The next one will wait until the end of the year to appear. Still, it is not affecting the popularity and the first next big update is scheduled for 2022.
