The 2021 Ram 1500 Diesel is coming unchanged after more than a successful season. The fact is – FCA’s truck is the second best-selling model after Ford F-150. While the almost entire public was waiting for the F-150 Diesel, Ram 1500 stole the show with the best marketing. Well, the results came soon after the premiere.
Under the hood of the 2021 Ram 1500 Diesel is a 3.0-liter unit. The truck is capable to tow 12,500 lbs. The EcoDiesel is very efficient and one of the biggest changes will be in the trim level lineup. An off-road model is definitely a missing piece of the squad. The Rebel TRX is a mean concept, but the drivetrain for this version will be a 6.2-liter Hellcat.
2021 Ram 1500 Diesel Specs
FCA trusts the EcoDiesel unit that produces 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. The twist output is a leader in the class. Such numbers are good for 12,500 pounds of towing capacity. That is 2,000 lbs more than Chevy Silverado with Duramax engine can do. Like every other engine in the lineup, a diesel unit sends power to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Two-wheel drive is a default setup, and you can still upgrade it to four-wheel drive. The fuel economy is also getting a boost – the truck will return more than 30 mpg on the highway.
2021 Ram 1500 Diesel vs Competition
Of course, the major rivals to the 2021 Ram 1500 Diesel are coming from two other US truckmakers. All three companies brought their diesel engines at the same time. After a year, we can say that Ram had the most successful season. While many fans expected the battle between Silverado and F-150, Ram 1500 spoiled the party. This pickup overtook the #2 selling position from Chevrolet’s pickup.
Still, the F-150 is untouchable. Its diesel engine is making the truck the most capable model for towing. It reaches 13,000 lbs, nearly 500 lbs more than the Ram pickup. Silverado is the most powerful with 280 hp but converted to towing capacity, the truck is far away from their rivals. The new Ram 1500 Diesel could take on the F-150 more seriously.
Price
The base truck is coming with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. If you want a diesel unit, you will have to pay $5,000 more. Of course, not all trim levels are offering the V6 petrol. If you pick a V8, it is still cheaper than the EcoDiesel. Furthermore, you can upgrade the ride with a 4WD. However, buyers will have to pay $3,500 for this upgrade, unless they pick a trim level where it is standard.
The most luxurious build combines a diesel engine, four-wheel drive, and the Limited package. Combine these three options and your Ram 1500 is going to cost more than $56,000 without further upgrades. We can recommend additional safety options, package for easier and more convenient towing, or the Black Appearance bundle with stylish details. Heavily loaded, the 2021 Ram 1500 Diesel can cost $62,000.
