When the Gladiator became the first truck by Jeep after three decades, we knew the company will go after a diesel configuration. Well, the FCA stunned the world when they launched the Ram 1500 with an oil burner. But, the same unit is used for the mid-size pickup. Many will say the 2022 Jeep Gladiator Diesel is too much for this class. But, it has its pros and cons.
A 3.0-liter turbodiesel lays under the hood of the pickup truck and delivers as much power as we can see on its larger sibling. This is the second oil burner in the mid-size class. The 2022 Jeep Gladiator Diesel is now even more powerful than the Chevy Colorado. Toyota gave up on Tacoma diesel and Ford is still considering options for the Ranger. However, it seems the Blue Oval company would rather opt for the V6. That leaves more fans of diesel units for Jeep Gladiator.
2022 Jeep Gladiator Diesel Complete Specifications
A 3.0-liter V6 engine is producing 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. The towing capacity is nearly at the same level as Chevy Colorado, about 7,700 pounds. Well, Ram 1500 with the same powerplant hauls 12,500 lbs. But, this is a significantly larger truck. An eight-speed automatic is a power router and sends the energy to 2WD or 4WD configuration. If you are a fan of wild adventures, a 4×4 drive is great in pair with the Rubicon package.
Compared to the Chevy Colorado, the 2022 Jeep Gladiator Diesel is more potent. General Motors is using a 2.8-liter Duramax plant with 200 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. It tows up to 7,700 pounds. Most other trucks are good for 7,000 pounds with petrol units.
Other Configurations
Gladiator caused a lot of interest when the company launched it. Rumors were right about its design. It is practically a Wrangler pickup. But, all these speculations were wrong about the nameplate, bidding between Wrangler and Scrambler. A 3.6-liter V6 gasoline setup is the base option here. It is a well-known Pentastar plant, this time tuned for 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Again, you can choose between 2WD and 4WD. Besides the extra power and torque, the 2022 Jeep Gladiator Diesel will also return a better gas mileage – 22/28 mpg compared to 16/23 mpg from the gas unit.
2022 Jeep Gladiator Diesel Rubicon
The 2022 Jeep Gladiator Diesel Rubicon is our recommendation. A special off-road package is going to enhance every adventure you imagine. The Rubicon trim features electronic control of front differential locking and anti-roll bar disconnect. Of course, 4×4 is standard and the crawl ratio is set to 4:1. Roc-Trac part-time system is going to maximize the power when needed. Selec-speed control is the cruise control specialized for off-road conditions. All-terrain wheels, skid plates, and bedliner are other notable upgrades. If you want a lighter configuration, then the Mojave edition will save some money. In this case, you will get Fox shocks and a wider riding track. With Falken off-road tires, it will be enough for a decent adventure. Overland is the trim for those truckers looking for premium equipment, such as leather upholstery and advanced infotainment gadgets.
