Dodge Dakota is the priority, but the 2022 Ram 1500 is still going to be the flagship model. According to our sources, the company is preparing an update. Still, since we are far away from production, FCA is not unveiling details. The game between three big US truckmakers is on and the Ram 1500 made impressive things in the past few years. One thing will tell you a lot about it – the half-ton pickup is now the second best-selling model in the segment, taking away the position from Chevrolet Silverado.
This didn’t happen by chance. While everyone was speaking about Silverado and F-150 with diesel engines, Ram 1500 silently developed a new generation. Besides the oil-burner, the new generation of a truck drew a lot of buyers, although its main rivals were fresh and attractive as well. The 2022 Ram 1500 doesn’t have an easy task, not only to maintain the momentum but also to upgrade the offer. Here is what we expect from the full-size truck.
2022 Ram 1500 Hybrid
Well, the pickup is already using a mild-hybrid setup. However, it doesn’t affect an impressive performance. So, a true hybrid setup is required to raise the bar of fuel economy and towing capacity. The E-Torque system is a good start and it can evolve further, adding more power and efficient ride. On the other hand, for the past couple of years, we are listening to speculations not only about Ram 1500 hybrid, but also Toyota Tundra and Ford F-150. None of these companies is delivering such a configuration even at the mid-size segment.
Diesel is Making a Difference
The 2022 Ram 1500 Diesel is getting power from a 3.0-liter V6 mated to an eight-speed transmission. The combination is delivering 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque and increases the towing capacity over 12,500 lbs. We can’t find clues of the further development, but experts assume the FCA is not going to pay too much attention to oil burners. Hybrid and electric drivetrains are going to replace diesel units very soon.
2022 Ram 1500 Redesign
The latest generation of the truck debuted at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show with a diesel engine. The new styling is also a key reason for the success. Nevertheless, now it is time for the first update. Well, Ford will bring the new generation of the F-150, which will cause a lot of chain reactions in the full-size pickup market. This is one of them since we didn’t get used to such soon updates.
The exterior will come with minor modifications. Experts predict updates on the front fascia. Also, the bed could get more options to make the work easier. The interior offer depends on the cabin layout. A new infotainment system is on the way and the Uconnect 5.0 will have something to show. Fans can’t wait to see it available in the FCA vehicles. Smarter features will improve comfort, convenience, safety, multimedia. At the center of the dashboard will sit an 8-inch touchscreen, while the top trims are coming with a huge 10-inch display.
