General Motors is not giving up the battle with Ram and Ford. But, to keep the pace, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 must improve, a lot. Its main rivals are a step ahead with high-output versions TRX and Raptor R. Chevrolet Silverado is not following that trend. But, the ZR2 model will be a competitor to the standard F-150 Raptor. That is a promising start and we expect even more surprises from GM.
Can the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 get an all-electric version? Well, yes. General Motors has already presented the future project – Hummer EUT. This drew a lot of attention. But, to fulfill the potential, the battery needs to be exploited in one of the most popular vehicles in the US. An electric Silverado is a far-fetched story, but it would perfectly fit to the existing lineup.
Engines and Specs
Before we see an all-electric truck, let’s go through the existing lineup of powertrains. The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 is going to offer a wide choice, starting with a turbo-four unit. A 2.7-liter turbocharged mill is stepping up with 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. Nevertheless, the towing ability is not at the same level as with larger displacements. A 3.6-liter V6 is a better choice, with similar power and even less twist.
But, the best from the Silverado pickup truck is coming if you select a V8. And there is a three-way choice. The first one is a 4.3-liter unit paired with a 6-pace gearbox. But, every serious trucker is not going to accept anything under 300 ponies. A 5.3-liter drivetrain is good for 355 hp and 385 lb-ft, while the best of the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 is coming with a 6.2-liter powerplant. Available at high-end trims, this engine can develop 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. It will be there for the new ZR2 edition.
Finally – the 2023 Chevy Silverado Diesel is available as well. A 3.0-liter turbo-six powertrain is producing 277 hp and 460 lb-ft. The issue is fixed already and the new truck will be able to tow as much as its main rivals – about 12,000 pounds. A turbodiesel configuration is also the most efficient regarding the fuel economy, reaching 30 mpg at certain trim levels.
2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2, High Country
Besides a wide engine choice, General Motors will offer a lot of packages for its popular vehicle. Configuring the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 is not going to end fast, especially if you don’t have initial preferences. Cabin and bed style, engine choice, and finally, trim levels, combined, can create numerous interesting mixes. But, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 is going to be under the spotlight, since it is a new version, equipped with high-end options, such as 6.2-liter engine and off-road equipment. If you don’t need the adventurer truck, a dose of luxury is added for the Silverado High Country model. All the latest products are there – a six-way MultiPro tailgate, trailering camera, and Super Cruise package, that will get a high level of autonomous drive in the near future.
