But, the best part of the setup is the Allison transmission. The company made an impact after the latest update. Even Ram is considering the replacement for the AISIN gearbox.
So, everything about the new 2024 Chevy 3500 is pretty special. The truck comes with plenty of options for modifications – three cab configurations (CrewCab offers two bed sizes), several trim levels and optional packages, 2WD/4WD setups, and of course, the choice between petrol and diesel engines. Finally, the Silverado 3500 is available with a dual-rear-wheel drive setup for the maximum towing capacity of 36,000 pounds.
2024 Chevy 3500 Duramax Diesel Specs and Towing
You’ll want a diesel engine under the hood of your 2024 Chevy 3500 truck. Well, this heavy-duty vehicle is not going to produce more than 1,000 lb-ft of torque, like Ram and Ford. But, it doesn’t stop the Silverado 3500 HD from putting out the best towing capacity numbers in the segment. The configuration includes a 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 with 470 hp and 975 lb-ft. A 10-speed Allison transmission of the latest generation provides a smooth gear change and overall ride. Properly equipped, including the DRW setup, the Chevy 3500HD can tow 36,000 pounds.
You can also pick a gasoline engine. It is a 6.6-liter naturally-aspirated V8 with 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. Well, this one can’t tow as much as a truck equipped with an oil burner. The petrol setup is good for 17,500 pounds. In both cases, 2WD is standard and you can upgrade the ride with a 4WD. On some grades, this feature is standard. Only diesel offers dually configuration.
2024 Chevy 3500: Cabs, Beds and Trim Levels
The Silverado 3500 HD is available with three bed configurations. Regular Cab is the entry-level model. You can change it to a four-door layout with either Double Can or Crew Cab. All of those are available with the long bed (8’1’’), while the Crew Cab also offers a standard box (6’10’’). From there, you can select other options. Trim levels for Regular and Double cab are limited to WT and LT. Still, you can also change between 2WD and 4WD, while the Double cab also offers DRW setup. The Crew Cab adds LTZ and High Country grades.
Highlights of the entry-level WT package are IntelliBeam headlights, trailering package is included, hitch and hitch camera guidance, Chevy Infotainment System 3 and push button start. The LT adds premium audio, chrome details, a brake controller, more tailgate options, huge driver’s display, and offers the Z71 package as an additional option.
The LTZ will try to impress with the trailering app, 2-speed transfer case, power-adjustable mirrors, machined wheels, power outlet in the bed, 10-way power driver seat with memory setting, and dual-zone climate control. The best options are there for the 2024 Chevy 3500 High Country. Parking sensors, 360-degree camera, factory-installed bedliner, side steps, bed-view camera, 20-inch wheels, power tailgate, and Bose audio are just some of the features you get with the top of the range package.
2024 Chevy 3500 Colors
Six paintjobs are available for the WT grade. Those are Red Hot, Black, Summit White and three metallic colors – Slate Gray, Sterling Gray, and Lakeshore Blue. Other trims add Summit White, Auburn and Dark Ash, free of additional charge. Premium options are Radiant Red Tincoat and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat.
Competition
All three leading US truckmakers are building series 3 trucks. The 2024 Chevy 3500 will compete with Ford F-350 and Ram 3500. Choices are pretty similar – all models are available with a dual-rear-wheel drive configuration to maximize the towing potential. Chevrolet is a leader here with 36,000 pounds, although other tow trucks are not far behind. Other options are also pretty much the same – including base price and heavily-loaded high-end versions. The GMC Sierra 3500 HD is a mechanical twin to the Silverado 3500.

With so many options, the price of the truck ranges from $46,500 for the Regular Cab WT, up to heavily loaded Crew Cab Long Bed with a diesel engine, High Country trim, 4WD and DRW, Premium and Tech packages, which is priced above $90,000. Between those two price tags, you must find a perfect combo for your needs.
