The 2024 RAM 1200 is about to take the position in the compact truck class. Stellantis Group launched the mid-size pickup – Jeep Gladiator. But, the competition is always into something new. This time, Ford and Hyundai are testing the small pickup segment with Maverick and Santa Cruz. Of course, all other truckmakers are monitoring the performance of those models and slowly prepare their vehicles. One of them should be RAM 1200.
This is not something new. RAM 700 is already available in some markets as the replacement for Fiat Strada. Then, rumors about RAM 1000 cooled down with the release of the Jeep Gladiator. But now, the company needs another vehicle for the new class. Furthermore, we are hearing rumors about the new Baby Jeep, a smaller version of the Wrangler. Gladiator is based on the same platform as the mid-size SUV. The new crossover will definitely use the same architecture as the 2024 RAM 1200. So, we are eagerly waiting for its release.
2024 RAM 1200 Specs
Since the 2024 RAM 1200 needs to be an efficient commercial vehicle, it needs a small displacement. Engineers will probably deploy a new 1.3-liter turbocharged four-banger with 180 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. It is a very efficient ride. We see it return 25/35 on the Renegade crossover. The RAM 1200 might return similar numbers. The pickup doesn’t need an all-wheel drive, especially since it consumes a lot more fuel. A nine-speed automatic transmission will send power to front wheels. Payload and towing capacity will be announced later.
Styling and Features
The new pickup will be the smallest in the lineup, that is for sure. It shares the platform with some compact crossover, such as Jeep Renegade or Compass. But, it won’t carry a seven-bar grille. Instead, the Ram truck gets a Ram design. It is still unknown what kind of a cabin configuration it is getting. The 2024 RAM 1200 will lack space, both inside the cockpit and back in the bed. So, designers have to decide which one is more important. The pickup won’t offer high-end options and grades. Still, the company will have to equip it nicely to make the work more convenient. The new Uconnect 5 system is expected with the latest functions. Even heavily-loaded, the Ram 1200 won’t cost too much.
2024 RAM 1200 Release Date and Price
The new 2024 RAM 1200 will be out late this year. The carmaker is still developing the project slowly, at the same time monitoring how Ford Maverick is performing on the market. Well, truckers are more after half-ton models, rather than mid-size pickups. The compact class will be there for the commercial use. There won’t be some crazy editions for off-road drive. So, the company will need to estimate profit/loss chances before rushing into the new production. The price of the RAM 1200 should be under $25,000.
