Ram 2500 is not a truck that can tow 37,000 pounds. There is no dual-rear-wheel setup and other boosters that can increase the capacity. But, the 2024 Ram 2500 Rebel is the grade that steals the show, since the Ram 3500 doesn’t offer this package.
The main rivals to the Rebel HD truck are GMC Sierra 2500 AT4 and Ford F-250 Tremor. It seems like the Ram leads the way thanks to the styling and performance. There are unique upgrades no other truck in the family is offering. The Rebel package is also available for the Ram 1500, but the specs can’t be compared to the Cummins diesel.
The truck can be even better after the transmission update. AISIN is out of date and a 6-speed gearbox needs to catch up with the competition. Bosses are not happy and they could opt to switch to the new Allison transmission system that made Silverado HD trucks more capable of towing.
2024 Ram 2500 Rebel Package Features
Rebel package makes the truck more capable of off-road drive. But, there is a trim level with more extreme options – the Power Wagon. Rebel is positioned right between the Ram Power Wagon and above the Laramie.
A 4WD is standard for this off-roader, which is kind of expected. All-terrain tires are wrapping 20-inch wheels. The 2024 Ram 2500 Rebel also gets hill descent control, special suspension, a limited-slip rear differential, locking rear axle and recovery hooks. Skid plates will protect body parts, especially under the truck.
Those are the upgrades that enhance off-road performance. Meanwhile, the 2024 Ram 2500 Rebel also comes with options that boost styling, comfort and safety. Outside, LED headlights and foglights are standard. Hood is unique with fender flares. Black badges make the Rebel more distinctive. Parking sensors are added as well as the 360-degree camera. This grade is available only for the Crew Cab configuration.
Specs
The base engine for the 2024 Ram 2500 Rebel is a 6.4-liter V8 petrol unit. Its specs won’t impress you too much, having in mind this is a heavy-duty truck. But 410 hp and 429 lb-ft is more than respectable output. An 8-speed automatic transmission sends power to all wheels. EPA doesn’t report mileage for the HD segment, but the off-road tuned model definitely consumes more than other configurations. Reports say the average return is 15 mpg. On the Rebel, the outcome will depend on terrain conditions.
If you want to get the best of the Ram 2500 HD Rebel, then the diesel mill is a must-have upgrade. Cummins powerplant delivers 420 hp and 1,075 lb-ft… but for the Ram 3500 version that can tow 37,000 pounds. For the Series 2 truck, owners get 370 hp and 850 lb-ft. That is enough for an impressive performance. A six-speed transmission is a power router. Soon, the Allison transmission might replace it, or AISIN could upgrade its system to make Dodge Ram HD trucks even better.
2024 Ram 2500 Rebel vs Power Wagon
The Power Wagon uses the same options as the Rebel, but upgrades the truck with the following options – manual shift transfer case for the 4WD, unique bumpers, 17-inch wheels, and electric winch. This version can go in tougher terrains thanks to a disconnecting front stabilizer bar, special suspension setup, and locking axles for boosted traction.
Competition
The off-road segment is always interesting to buyers, not only truckers but also SUV fans. The Ram 2500 Rebel is one of the best options, but you must pay at least $70,000. That is very expensive. For the best performance brought by an oil burner, you must add another $10k. The AT4 version of Sierra 2500 HD costs nearly the same – $70k with a petrol unit and $80k with a diesel. The Tremor package for the Ford F-250 is an upgrade for the XLT trim is more similar to the Power Wagon.
Optionally, you can pick a smaller truck, Ram 1500. Rebel is also available, but engines are much less impressive. On the other hand, if you are looking for a high-performance truck, then the Ram TRX is going to stun you with 700 hp and the best all-terrain gear. Of course, the first name we think about when mentioning off-road drive is Ford Raptor, now available with a supercharged V8 powertrain.
2024 Ram 2500 Rebel Colors
Monotone and two-tone colors are available for the 2024 Ram 2500 Rebel. Bright White and Flame Red are no-cost paints, while buyers need to pay $200-$250 for others – Oliver Green, Diamond Black, Granite Crystal, Bullet Silver, Patriot Blue, Hydro Blue and Delmonico Red. Two-tone colors combine Diamond Black with other shades. For the 2024 YM, the truckmaker will update the palette with one or two paints.
