A couple of new trim levels and aesthetic updates in the past couple of years mean the mid-cycle refresh is done for now and the 2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD is coming unchanged. Still, the Series 2 truck is well-packed with plenty of options. You can choose between three cab configurations, two engines, and 5 or 6 trim levels (depending if you consider Denali Ultimate separate from standard Denali).
The highlights of the 2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD are the AT4X off-road model. It will now offer an overlanding AEV package. If you want a premium feeling, the Denali Ultimate takes the luxury to another level. For the best performance, you need a diesel engine. The Sierra 2500 won’t offer the highest towing capacity. You’ll need the Sierra 3500 HD model for that and dual-rear wheel setup. Still, the Series 2 truck can haul 22,500 pounds.
Engines and Towing Capacity
The truck offers a special petrol V8 configuration. General Motors introduced a new drivetrain a couple of years ago and it delivers a more efficient ride. A 6.6-liter mill can deliver 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. More important, the configuration can tow 18,700 pounds. Sierra 3500 is a bit better with 19,150 lbs. A 10-speed automatic transmission is sending power to axles.
For the best performance, there is a 6.6-liter turbodiesel mill under the hood of the 2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD. In this case you are getting 470 hp and 975 lb-ft. It is a maximum torque for the Sierra 3500 as well, while Series 3 trucks by Ford and Ram can do more than 1,050 pound-feet. Allison transmission is making a difference in this class. Maximum towing capacity is 36,000 pounds, but for the Sierra 3500 HD and it requires additional tuning. Sierra 2500HD can haul 22,500 pounds.
2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4X Off-Road Package
The AT4 was already one of the best off-road packages in the heavy-duty segment. But now, with the 2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4X, everything is at a new level. The company lifts the truck by 1.5’’ thanks to the special suspension system. You don’t need aftermarket upgrades, so the truck keeps the warranty. Approach and departure angles are 31.6 and 25.7 degrees. Goodyear tires are standard. The AT4X package features a unique e-locking rear differential.
Not only the exterior, but also the interior is revisited. The company calls it the Obsidian Rush theme. Premium leather, double stitching, special accents and details are providing maximum elegance and comfort. Additionally, you can enhance the AT4X package with the AEV bundle. The American Expedition Vehicles company is specialized for overlanding upgrades and it will keep the warranty thanks to the cooperation. Ground clearance is now 11.8 inches, and the approach angle is changed to 29.8 degrees. AEV badges are all around the interior to remind you this is a special edition.
2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate
There is no luxury truck segment, but upgrades on certain models can be part of this class. For example, the Sierra Denali. But, the 2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate is ready to impress even more. Standard offer includes 20-inch wheels and roof marker lights on the outside, and plenty of features inside the cabin. Premium leather covers the interior, navigation is standard, multimedia system is boosted by Bose audio, a wireless charger, and a huge touchscreen. Drivers can count on numerous aid systems. The bed-view camera makes towing more convenient, as well as the bedliner.
There are no too many things left for the Denali Ultimate. For example, the full-grain leather upholstery enhances comfort. The open-pore Paldao hardwood trim makes the impression even more unique. Front seats are heated, cooled, and the massage function is standard. From the first feedbacks, it seems this is not just an option to make the Denali Ultimate package different. The massage is really good. From other upgrades, we underline the CarbonPro bed and 5 extra speakers for better sound effects.
Highlights of Other Models
The Pro is an entry-level package. This model is there to work and not too many fancy features will draw your attention from the main purpose. The SLE is a recommended upgrade since it adds cool options, such as alloy wheels, a MultiPro tailgate, a cruise control, an 8-inch display… The SLT can be considered as a premium package with a price tag of $63,000. The smartphone trailering app is something new for the HD truck world. If you don’t want to pay too much for the AT4X, the X31 package can boost off-road performance. Other cool optional upgrades are a HUD, trailering camera, digital mirror, or an audio system for the MultiPro Tailgate.
2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD Price
Although the 2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD will be pretty much the same, the options reshuffle will make the price go up. The base version should stay under $50,000. The SLT is at the halfway to the premium segment. AT4X will deliver a unique off-road experience for $70k, and only a couple of Denali packages top this price. The Ultimate grade could end up close to the $100k mark.
