Shortly after the premiere of the new Silverado 1500, Chevrolet fans won’t wait for too long until new reveals. The company teases us with a brand-new, huge trucks. The 2019 Chevy Silverado 4500HD and 5500HD models will take a position above 3500HD truck. This will make them the biggest units in the family’s commercial fleet.
Trucks are already official and the debut is set for March. It will happen in Indianapolis, at one of the major truck shows in the USA. Besides the size, two models won’t be too much different from the rest of the lineup. The same technology is going to be in the cabin. Exterior look will get only minor changes. Of course, the size increases the volume of the engine needed to produce power, as well as the output.
2019 Chevy Silverado 4500HD/5500HD Specs
The most likely solutions for an engine room come from Duramax. This should be a 5.2-liter V-8 unit which is capable to produce more power than its petrol sibling. Turbodiesel powertrain will probably deliver around 800 lb-ft of torque. This is slightly worse than Silverado HD can produce with a 6.6-liter drivetrain. Nevertheless, Ram is planning to launch a brand-new diesel lineup of its heavy-duty trucks with 930 pound-feet of torque.
Petrol Engine
The 2019 Chevy Silverado 4500HD/5500HD pickups will also offer a petrol alternative. It is also a V-8 drivetrain, and we believe that Chevrolet will use a 6.0-liter displacement. With it, power output will be much higher. Whatsoever, this engine is not even close to the torque level Duramax diesel can produce. Also, it comes with a worse MPG rating and towing capacity, so we believe that buyers will be keen on diesel unit.
Transmission
Transmission for the petrol engine is still questionable. It is almost certain that a new 10-speed auto gearbox will be present in truck segment in 2019 season. However, it is still fresh and unconfirmed for the new 2019 Silverado 1500. Nevertheless, Chevrolet is not going to give up, so it is very likely to happen with some modifications. The situation is clearer for Duramax. Perfect match for this one is an Allison transmission. This is a 6-pace box that is in use from 2006.
2019 Chevy Silverado 4500HD/5500HD Styling
Both 2019 Chevy Silverado 4500HD and 5500HD will be available in two cab configurations. Buyers will be able to choose between regular and crew cab. Also, other options provide two- and four-wheel drive configurations. Mega cab is not in plans. Further details will be available on the debut. Since the teaser is showing us just a shadow of the upcoming model, we still don’t know how it will look like. Interior is more predictable, with 4G LTE capability. Body parts have more aluminum and carbon-fiber, so both heavy-duty trucks won’t lose on agility and mileage.
2019 Chevy Silverado 4500HD/5500HD Release Date and Competition
Main rivals of 2019 Chevy Silverado 4500HD and 5500HD will be 4- and 5-cab chassis trucks. Of course, there is a Ford, as the leading manufacturer in the entire pickup segment. Its F-450 and F-550 models are also coming refreshed for 2019, as well as Ram 4500/5500 trucks. Debut is set for March, but Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD and 5500HD will be available in dealerships late in 2018.
