The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is coming. The vehicle didn’t appear in Detroit, at the latest Auto Show. Also, it is not going to wait for the next big car show in New York. Instead, General Motors will organize a separate event for the premiere of the 2019 Sierra 1500.
The truck will share a lot in common with the new Chevy Silverado 1500. At first place, engine lineup will be the same. On the other hand, Sierra 1500 will use totally different styling language. So, fans will be able to choose between two full-size trucks from GM. Also, changes in design are certain, although we couldn’t spot many of them under the heavy camo of test mules caught on streets.
2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Engine Lineup is Getting Diesel Unit
So far, we are sure that 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 will have at least three options under the bonnet. This pickup will use all the existing engines as Silverado. Whatsoever, Chevy announced there are three more drivetrains to be added later.
Until then, the biggest addition is a diesel powertrain. Both trucks from two companies under GM badge will use a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine. This Duramax unit is able to produce between 240 and 250 horses. Also, torque level for 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 will be around 420 pound-feet. With such energy, the truck can return 25 mpg combined or 21/29 mpg for city and highway ride.
Gasoline Engines Specs
Besides diesel, the 2019 Sierra 1500 will use two petrol units. First of them is a 5.3-liter engine. Standard offer includes a 6-speed automatic transmission and power output of 355 hp. Torque at 4,100 rpm goes up to 383 lb-ft. More power comes from a 6.2-liter, also a V-8 Fuel-Flex mill. Larger drivetrain boosts both energy and torque output to 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. Optionally, drivetrains will be mated to an 8-speed gearbox, while the diesel unit is paired with a 10-speed auto transmission.
