Discontinuation of the diesel engine is a huge blow for the 2021 Nissan Titan XD. The truck bigger than the standard full-size model, but still not part of the heavy-duty class, was a perfect choice for truckers that couldn’t decide which segment to pick. Without serious competition, the Titan XD built its reputation as a mean, but still not the too huge vehicle, perfect for towing.
Although the rumors are not confirmed, we expect to see the Warrior concept in production for the 2021 Nissan Titan XD. The company has to make it up for the discontinuation of the turbodiesel Cummins unit, and the old concept is still a wish by many fans. Other changes will include small updates inside the cabin, while the exterior remains pretty much the same.
2021 Nissan Titan XD Changes
The 2020 update brought more cuts than new things. Besides the turbodiesel engine, the regular cab was also removed from the build option. Now, only with the Crew Cab configuration, the 2021 Nissan Titan XD doesn’t have big chances, even without competition in the segment. Well, we can hear that Ram 2000 could be the all-new truck, but no one takes these speculations too seriously.
The carmaker is making a break in 2020. There are no novelties, not only for its trucks but also for crossovers and SUVs. Nissan is preparing a big rush in 2021, with many new models, updates, technologies, engines… This promises the new styling for all pickup models, including the largest one.
Warrior Could Be Finally in Production
The Warrior platform is based on the Titan XD truck. The special edition of the pickup is boosting the exterior appearance with the unique body upgrades. The so-called shield is turning Titan into a modern warrior for on and off-road battles. The bad thing – this concept was based on a turbodiesel version. Now, with this engine gone, we believe the only outcome is to build it on the existing petrol unit.
2021 Nissan Titan XD Specs
Under the bonnet of the 2021 Nissan Titan XD is going to lay a 5.6-liter Endurance engine. The V6 is good for 400 hp and 415 lb-ft, bringing the towing capacity to 8,800 pounds. This is definitely not good enough to get on the line with the HD class. Even the full-size trucks by leading US manufacturers can do a lot better with diesel units. That is why the discontinuation of a 5.0-liter turbodiesel was a surprise. Cummins engine was able to maximize the torque to 555 lb-ft, which is, converted to towing capacity, more than 13,000 lbs. Most fans believe this unit will be back very soon, maybe even on the 2021 Titan XD. The turbodiesel engine by Cummins was not available on the standard truck.
Debut at NAIAS Under Question Mark?
We are eagerly waiting for the Detroit Auto Show. Let’s just hope that the situation with the coronavirus is going to calm down and that the biggest stage for debuts in the USA won’t be delayed or canceled. That is the perfect place for the premiere of the 2021 Nissan Titan XD, especially if it brings back diesel engine and Warrior package.
