2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 Heavy-Duty Truck Review

The heavy-duty segment is not so crowded. Even the existing models are tuned to deliver similar capabilities. So, personal preferences are the key when buying an HD pickup. Our favorite is the 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500. The vehicle is offering both petrol and diesel engines. Both are very capable. Still, if you want to maximize the potential, the Series 3 truck is a better choice. With it, truckers can tow more than 35,000 pounds.

Main rivals to the 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 will be Ram 2500 and Ford F-250. GMC Sierra 2500 is the mechanical twin. This is something we see often by General Motors.  The capabilities of the Silverado 2500 depend on the engine you pick. Of course, diesel is a way better choice if you need to carry heavy cargo. Also, there are enough trim levels and additional packages available to make a perfect combo.

Versions

There are five packages that will be carried over to the next 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500. The base unit is Work Truck. The WT comes with a 7-inch touchscreen display and 17-inch wheels. There is no zonal climate control. Automatic locking rear differential is included as well. The Custom model is available only for the Series 2 truck. Tinted glass, power windows, and 20-inch wheels are standard. Cruise control is a cool upgrade, but most fans are looking for the Super Cruise system.

The LT trim is adding special tailgate. Still, it won’t use the Multi-Pro feature. Trail brake controller is also available. This model brings wireless charging. All these options are there for the LTZ. However, leather replaces cloth. Front seats are heated and the multimedia screen is larger. Another zone for air-conditioning is added. Advanced systems will make trailering much easier. The High Country is a synonym for luxury. Polished alloy-wheels, power tailgate, Bose sound system, navigation, ventilated seats, and AWD are additions over the LTZ package.

A 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 Duramax engine is one of the stars of the truck market. It creates 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. Fans are disappointed that GM engineers left this one nearly 100 pound-feet behind the main rivals. On the other hand, properly equipped, but only for the Silverado 3500, the truck can tow 35,500 lbs. Series 2 will do up to 20,000 pounds. Allison delivers an all-new transmission with 10 paces. Some say this one is the next gearbox for Ram pickups.

A 6.6-liter displacement is a petrol solution, if you are not fan of oil-burners. This engine is good for 400 hp and 465 pound-feet of torque. However, by picking this one, do not expect towing capacities anywhere close to the Duramax powerplant. A six-speed auto is the transmission for the gasoline engine, and it distributes power to rear wheels. In both cases, AWD is optional.
