It is already part of the Colorado lineup, so this was just a matter of time when the ZR2 is going to be offered with a larger truck. The 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 is now announced by General Motors. The company is bringing it to compete with Ford F-150 Tremor, Raptor, and Ram 1500 Rebel. Nevertheless, Chevrolet is not getting into the new segment alongside Raptor R and Ram TRX Hellcat.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 will be an off-road oriented pickup. That means upgrades are going to boost capabilities at the toughest terrains. The truck is getting a bigger gap between the body and the ground. Special wheels and tires are about to extend the lifespan. The package is also going to use special driver-aid equipment.

What We Know So Far?
The ZR2 is now official. The company confirmed we can expect a debut by the end of the year. We assume it is about to happen in the last quarter. Colorado receives a 2-inch lift and wider track. Those will be even bigger for the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2. Locking differentials and valve dampers are also parts that will enhance off-road performance and we see those doing a great job on the Colorado. The ZR2 will take the position above Z71 and Trail Boss trims, which were the best options for an off-road drive if you own Silverado.
Competition
The 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 is not going to be a high-end model, with state-of-art upgrades, such as Ram 1500 TRX Hellcat and Ford Raptor R. Both these trucks are going to deliver more than 700 horsepower, and it was expected from GM to respond and keep the pace with main rivals. Instead, the truckmaker will try to deliver an off-road ready pickup to rival a regular Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 Rebel. Nissan Titan Pro-4X and Toyota Tundra TRD Pro are alternatives if you like Japanese truckmakers.
2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Specs
It is obvious that ZR2 is going to bring the best in tough terrains. But, we still don’t know what kind of an engine this truck is going to use. Standard Silverado offers plenty of options, but we can already write off small displacements, such as turbo-four and V6. So, there is a couple of V8 units, and the 4×4 system will probably come in pair with a larger, 6.2-liter mill, that creates 420 horsepower. Another option might be a diesel unit. A 3.0-liter Duramax plant is the most potent in the segment with 277 horsepower.
2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Release Date and Price
The truck will have a price similar to its rival, that is for sure. So, we can say without hesitation that MSRP will be somewhere between $45,000 and $50,000. Additional options will be available and the configuration could gain about $10,000. Of course, the price is going to depend on the engine choice. We’ll have to be patient for a few months, since the truck will be launched this fall. The premiere of the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 could happen at LA Auto Show.
