FCA is not putting all details out, but the confirmation of the high-performance truck shook the entire market. The appearance is so big that Ford started developing a new version of the Raptor truck straight away.
Under the bonnet of the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX is a popular Hellcat engine. We already knew that, so there are no big surprises. The company brought the Rebel TRX concept a few years ago and ever since experts were claiming the truck is getting the most powerful engine available in the FCA lineup. There are also special upgrades that make the Dodge Ram 1500 capable for an off-road drive. Threats from 2018 are now real. Back then, at the premiere of a diesel pickup, the company set the clock on display at 7:07. The Hellcat engine produces 707 hp for the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

So, we expected the outputs at 707 ponies. But, the company made the 6.2-liter supercharged unit making 702 hp for the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX. We doubt it will be a dealbreaker and the fans feel cheated. A huge displacement is going to skyrocket the performance of the pickup. According to predictions, the vehicle will need only 4.5 seconds for 0-60 acceleration. This is the record for the segment. The truck is lifted to 11.8 inches and it can go 32 inches deep in the water. The engine also produces 650 lb-ft of torque. We expect an eight-speed automatic transmission, although the Ram 1500 TRX could mate a powerful engine with an Allison gearbox. There are no details about the towing capacity.
New Ford F-150 Raptor is Coming
It didn’t take too long for the response by a leading truckmaker in the US. Ford started the development of the fresh Raptor package for the F-150 pickup. This time, it is going to include a more powerful unit. Currently, Ford is using a V6 with 450 hp. But, that is not enough to call the Raptor a competitor to the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX. A new version will probably get the power from a 5.2-liter V8 supercharged drivetrain. In the Mustang GT500, this powerplant is producing 760 horsepower. However, the unit is not tested on a bigger vehicle, as FCA did it with the Hellcat engine on Jeep Grand Cherokee. The situation is heating up and we can’t wait to see the new battle on the horizon.
2022 Ram 1500 TRX Release Date and Price
The TRX package with the Hellcat engine is announced for 2021. But, FCA didn’t confirm the start of production. So, the model for 2021 might be available in a limited amount of units. The massive production will start in the second half of the season. Estimations are saying the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX will cost around $72,000. The Launch Edition is packed with more options and increase the price to $90,000.
