Under the bonnet of the 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X is a 3.8-liter V6 engine. This is the new unit, debuted last year, for the entire truck’s lineup. Previously, Nissan was using a 3.5-liter engine, which is still available for other vehicles. For the pickup, a 3.8-l displacement is good for 310 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. It also improved towing capacity and gas mileage, which is now above 21 mpg combined. But, for the off-road drive, it is not going to be so good. A nine-speed transmission is also new. For the Pro-4X, it sends power to all wheels.
Features
The Pro-4X package includes accessories that will boost both off-road drive and interior comfort. Since it is a vehicle for toughest terrains, a 4×4 system is a must-have option. Bilstein shocks provide maximum comfort during the ride and guarantee that pickup will go over any obstacle. All-terrain tires are wrapping 17-inch wheels. Spray-in bedliner boosts the convenience of towing. The truck can haul up to 6,700 pounds. Skid plates and other parts will protect body from damage caused by riding the truck in the wilderness.
Inside, leather upholstery gives a shade of luxury. Power moonroof is one of the coolest addons. Front seats are heated and power-adjustable. On most other trucks, those are optional features. Navigation and premium audio are highlights of the infotainment. Still, a 5.8-inch touchscreen is too small for such a vehicle.
Competition
Every truckmaker is offering a 4×4 specialist for their mid-size models. Leaders in the segment are Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado. Those pickups are even more popular with TRD Pro and ZR2 trims. Chevrolet will even offer a diesel engine to maximize the potential of its vehicle. The same is with GMC Canyon. If you want the best from the 4×4, look for the AT4 model. Ford is yet to launch Ranger Raptor. Jeep is the latest member of this realm. FCA is now wasting time – the Gladiator will deploy the Rubicon package, as well as a big 3.0-liter diesel engine. Some say that Hercules edition is about to raise the bar to another level.
