Big cuts made the Titan XD truck way less attractive. The company cut the offer to a single cab configuration – CrewCab, also removing an optional diesel engine. The 2022 Nissan Titan XD will be without competition, for sure. But with no options, there won’t be too many buyers either. So, the company is returning a diesel engine for sure, and there will be at least one more cab layout.
Titan XD is a unique truck, positioned somewhere between half-ton and heavy-duty segments. There are no too many buyers, which fends off other companies battling for a small piece of the market. The only possible rival is Ram 2000, but the FCA is focusing on more profitable segments.
The 2022 Nissan Titan XD could become one of the most interesting models in the upcoming season. There are a couple of ideas, which are about to turn things around for the Japanese carmaker. Nissan is preparing big things for the next few years, and we are looking forward to seeing Warrior or Nismo concept on the XD truck.
The Comeback of the Diesel Unit
At this point, the vehicle is getting power only from a 5.6-liter V8 petrol engine. That is the same powerplant used by the smaller sibling, regular Titan. Also, the big SUV, Armada, is also coming with this unit, as well as the premium Infiniti QX80. Some sources claim the Japanese company is willing to replace the mighty engine with a twin-turbo V6 since the V8 is consuming too much fuel.
The return of a 5.0-liter V8 turbodiesel is more likely. It is a perfect engine for such a truck. The 2022 Nissan Titan XD might get 330 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque to maximize the towing capacity. It will be enough twisting power to move the pickup around tough terrains. The only thing engineers need to do is to reduce emissions.
2022 Nissan Titan XD Concepts: Nismo and Warrior
Nismo is a unique package for Nissan vehicles. The bad thing about the 2022 Nissan Titan XD, is that the special edition is usually reserved for small models, such as Juke crossover, or a few cars. Still, the stylish update would make the truck more appealing and eye-catching, which can draw more attention of buyers.
On the other hand, truckers are willing to spend extra for mean machines. The Warrior concept we saw a few years ago is one of them. It became old meanwhile, and never entered the production. But, it is not late. FCA is bringing the TRX model for the Ram 1500 after five years. Earlier in 2016, Nissan presented the Warrior concept. The truck will get a kind of armor, that makes the body more aggressive and protected from hits. The 2022 Nissan Titan XD Warrior will take on the Ford Tremor and Ram Power Wagon. Still, the first condition is to bring back a diesel unit, since both rivals are way more popular with oil-burners.
2022 Nissan Titan XD Release Date
Nissan has higher priorities at the moment, developing flagship models for the 2021 season. After that, more vehicles will be revisited and launched as 2022 YM, and Titan XD is one of them.
There is a zero percent chance of Nissan returning to the 5.0L diesel. That engine was discontinued by Cummins and is no longer available, to anybody. Dodge has exclusive rights to the 6.7L in the US market. So, unless Nissan is designing its own diesel engine, there will be no return of a diesel XD. Ever.
