FCA and Jeep made a surprising move when they decided to place a 3.0-liter engine under the bonnet of the mid-size pickup. Well, there are no too many cases to compare with. But, Chevy Colorado is using a turbo-four, and outside the US, most trucks are coming with a four-banger. On the other hand, a six-pot engine makes the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Diesel pretty special. It is big unit with plenty of power. Again, if we make a comparison, we’ll see that FCA wins the battle.
The 2023 Jeep Gladiator Diesel is still a fresh truck. This is the Wrangler-based vehicle, and for some while, we believed that pickup will use the same name as the SUV. Well, there are still a lot of differences. For example, a diesel engine is available for the truck.
2023 Jeep Gladiator Diesel Specs
So, if you choose the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Diesel, you are getting a bigg 3.0-l displacement with 260 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. Compared to the Ram 1500, a full-size truck that uses the same oil burner, that is only 40 pound-feet fewer. Interesting, a huge plant is not making the Gladiator the most capable mid-size pickup for towing. With the EcoDiesel engine, the vehicle can haul only 6,500 pounds. Well, that is a respectable output, but not compared to other trucks.
For example, Chevy Colorado diesel is a class-leader with 7,700 lbs, while most mid-size trucks can do 7,000 with a petrol configuration. Also, Ram 1500 leads the competition with 12,000 lbs, slightly more than Ford, and 3,000 pounds above Chevy and GMC haulers. All-wheel drive is optional for the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Diesel, and the power is being distributed through an 8-speed automatic gearbox. There are some rumors mentioning heavy-duty class and Allison transmission. The new case is not going to be available for smaller trucks.
Options and Prices
Generally, Jeep is well-known for a wide arrow of choices when it comes to choosing a trim level. More than 10 packages are ready for the pickup truck. Still, there are some catches. Not every option is compatible with another one. So, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Diesel is not going to offer all the 10 trim levels. For example, the oil burner is an upscale upgrade, not available at the base Sport model. It takes at least Willys Sport pick up this $4,000 option. After this trim, you’ll find the EcoDiesel for all other trims.
An all-wheel drive is standard for the Rubicon. This is our recommendation for future buyers. Special 4×4 package is a perfect fit for the diesel engine. Also have in mind that the new drivetrain also requires an upgrade from a six-pace manual gearbox, which costs another $2,000. So, without additional features, the 2023 Jeep Gladiator Diesel Rubicon starts at $52,000. Still, the most expensive model is High Altitude, also with the four-wheel drive. There is plenty of premium systems added to this version. When you decide to add a few options, the price is going over $60k.
