Truckers in the US are still waiting for the Volkswagen truck. It was supposed to be the Atlas Tanoak, but the new concept is called Tarok. Meanwhile, the 2023 VW Amarok will be one of the most popular pickups worldwide. So, with a big success with this truck, it is very annoying not to see the German carmaker at the biggest stage in the truck world. There are a few issues that should be fixed before they make a step into this world.
Volkswagen is unveiling a piece by piece of its new truck. We saw a teaser image showing a tailgate with a V6 badge, suggesting that a six-cylinder engine might be a base choice. The most recent update showed the fresh front fascia with Matrix lights. Of course, there will be a lot more left for the release date, which is scheduled for the next month. In July, we will see the complete 2023 VW Amarok. Also, let’s hope bosses are going to announce plans for the US truck market.
New 2023 VW Amarok Changes and Features
There are a few certain things we know about the upcoming vehicle. First of all, the truck is nearly 4 inches longer than its predecessor. That’s more important, the payload capacity is increased, while the towing capability stays at the same level. From teaser images, we found out a couple of things. First, there will be a Matrix lighting system on the front fascia. Polo hatchback uses a similar technology with 900 lumens. Then, the new tailgate is coming. In both cases, we can find out similarities with the Ford Ranger.
What’s more, the company announced packages for the 2023 VW Amarok. Those are Base, Life, Style, Panamericana and Aventura. Well, certain markets might get special versions and trim levels. Nevertheless, wheel size ranges between 17 and 21 inches. Another notable highlight we already know about is an updated infotainment system with a 10-inch screen and 8-inch driver display. Fans expect more teasers in the next two weeks, before the official unveiling of the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok.
Diesel V6 Engine, Hybrid Truck
The truck was teased with a new tailgate and a V6 badge sticker. It is not a surprise – the 2023 VW Amarok will feature a 3.0 TDI engine as the main source of power. The oil burner is ready to crack 265 hp and 430 lb-ft. A manual gearbox is available, and buyers are rather picking an automatic transmission. A lighter version featured a 2.0-liter engine. We don’t know what is going on with it, but the Bluemotion with so much power can’t be the only choice.
A four-cylinder TDI was good for 140-180 horsepower, depending on the tuning. It can be a good start for the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok. Also, the company might try something new. A hybrid truck can happen, although this breed doesn’t have a perspective, per experts. Still, the German company is a leader in innovations and a close partner to Ford Motors. Those two can deliver something special. And since Amarok and Ranger are close siblings, this could be a test for the hybrid truck for the US market.
