Total outputs for the SUV are 375 hp and 470 lb-ft. The key spec is the towing capacity, which is limited to 3,500 pounds on the hybrid SUV. So, engineers have to improve that. Even the Honda Ridgeline, a unibody truck, is capable to haul up to 5,000 lbs.
It is not impossible to see the 2024 Gladiator 4xe with a different configuration. For example, a V6 engine would be a good base for further development. But, for the Wrangler, the main goal was to make the SUV potent and efficient. You can drive it using only electric power and the vehicle covers 21 miles. Well, definitely there is a lot of room for improvements.
All-Electric Truck
The Gladiator might skip this step and go out with an electric drivetrain. Hybrid and PHEV systems can’t make it more competitive regarding the towing capacity. More truckers will rather opt for a diesel setup and hauling potential of 7,600 pounds. Hybrid systems and pickups are not the best combo. But, an all-electric drivetrain might be something totally different.
Those systems had to prove it yet. But, more companies are into this market already. General Motors started the evolution with the comeback of the GMC Hummer EUT, and now they also announced Chevy Silverado EV. Of course, Ford is following the moves of its archrival. The F-150 is getting the Lighting version. Tesla is the first company to launch an electric truck, but the Cybertruck is going to be too expensive compared to Ford and GM’s products. The PHEV technology is not cheap. The Wrangler costs $55,000 when using an electrically-supported drivetrain and Sahara package. The good thing about those vehicles is that buyers will be eligible for a tax refund of $7,500. nevertheless, there are a lot of other issues and questions, so truckers still stick to the classic configurations.
