A 2.0-liter engine is under the hood of the SUV. There are no doubts the truck will take it as the base setup. It creates 295 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, which is at the same level with other mid-size pickups, such as Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma. But, those models use a V6 power. The gas mileage is not impressive, though. The towing capacity of the SUV is 7,716 pounds, which should be the class-leading output.
A 3.0-liter I6 is an alternative. In this case, the outputs jump to 395 hp and 405 lb-ft. It also leads to a higher towing capacity of 8,200 pounds. Nevertheless, there should be differences between the 2024 Land Rover Defender truck and the SUV. A 5.0-liter mill is not so likely to happen. Such a unit is usually reserved for big trucks. Anyway, truckers might go after this kind of performance model.
Premium Truck: Pros and Cons
The biggest obstacle for the 2024 Land Rover Defender truck is its price. The JLR is producing premium vehicles. Truckers in the US are willing to pay extra to improve the capabilities of their rides. Well, they would get exceptional performance from the Defender. But, the starting MSRP won’t be under $50,000. That is quite a lot of money for the pickup. Just as a comparison, you can buy a mid-range version of the F-150 or Silverado. And that is the price for the version with a four-cylinder engine. A six-pot unit increases the cost of the SUV to $65k.
But, there are a good sides. The Defender came back after 25 years. Expectations were high, but the vehicle didn’t disappoint. You pay extra, but the SUV, or the truck are going to get the job done. Additionally, the cool look is going to draw attention. A spacious and luxurious interior is a bonus, but the company could make a lighter version to be more approachable to buyers.
