Does Volvo make a pickup truck? No. Not yet. It will. Soon. The success of the XC90 SUV will speed up this process. However, the truck will need a body-on-frame platform. The SUV is using a unibody architecture. However, XC90 will be a good base to start with. First images and renders are already available, although the company is still quiet. We will analyze the possibilities for the Volvo Pickup Truck Concept.
Companies that make premium SUVs are stepping into a new market. Audi and BMW are close to the debut of their first trucks. Their archrival Mercedes-Benz already has X-Class. However, fans in the US are waiting for the German carmaker to bring it over. Based on Nissan Navara, the popularity of MB X-Class is raising in Australia. More rumors about premium trucks are coming from Sweden. The Volvo Pickup Truck Concept is about to debut next year. However, the production won’t start in the next couple of years for sure.
Volvo Pickup Truck Concept Based on the XC90 SUV
The Volvo Pickup Truck Concept is definitely aiming to position the production model into compact class. There, things are becoming interesting with the comeback of the Ford Ranger and possible returns of Chevy Avalanche and Dodge Dakota. Fans of Toyota Tacoma diesel will also listen to the news about this arrival. So, Volvo is going to join the party with the luxury truck. We can’t find any similar model in the US.
So, what can Volvo Pickup Truck carry over from its SUV sibling? Engines? Well, a turbo-four produces a nice amount of power. But, what about towing capacity? In some versions, it can carry about 5,000 pounds. Standard towing capacity is 4,000 pounds. Well, it still falls short of other compact pickups. But, Volvo is going to make it up with premium styling and modern features. Do not expect from a Volvo Pickup Truck Concept to be a working machine. The Swedish company is working on the versatility.
High Expectations from Volvo Pickup Truck Concept
Well, if the Volvo Pickup Truck Concept is based on the XC90 SUV, we must expect the truck to pick up all pros from its sibling. At first place, that is safety. The crossover SUV is one of the best in this segment. Just look at NHTSA ratings – 5/5 for frontal and side crash, and side barrier. On-coming collision warning, blind-spot monitor, and lane departure warning are just some of many active features.
The new XC90 get a semi-autonomous drive, which could be also part of the truck’s concept. However, it needs a Momentum package and a hybrid drivetrain. We doubt that Volvo will head straight into this segment with its pickup.
Volvo Pickup Truck Price
We can compare the Volvo Pickup Truck with potential rivals. Well, if it is possible. Being a premium vehicle makes the model more expensive. So it will be with Volvo Truck. However, small pickups are available from around $25,000. Full-size trucks cost from $30,000. We doubt many buyers would opt for a premium small truck instead of a half-ton pickup. In Volvo are not sure about this. That is the reason why we are still waiting for the official announcement.
Excited!,,,🤗
