Toyota recently launched three special versions of its the most favorite truck in Australia. Hilux now can be purchased as Rugged, Rugged X and 2018 Toyota HiLux Rogue trim level. The last one costs the same as Rugged X, while Rugged is the least expensive. Furthermore, all versions are using the same engine with the same output as the base SR5 pickup. But, exterior upgrades and special tuning will make Rogue so special.
The upgrades of the 2018 Toyota HiLux Rogue include new transmission and visual details. Interior accents and additions will make this model recognizable. While Rugged and Rugged X add a snorkel, the 2018 Toyota HiLux Rogue will come with a conventional look. Fog lights and bigger wheels are installed. Also, Rogue will bring a cover for the bed. The box is perfect for storing the stuff for family trips. Dimensions of the Rogue are the same as for the standard model, but the weight gains 130 kg. This version’s curb weight is 2174 kg.
Additions to the cabin of 2018 Toyota HiLux Rogue are heated seats covered by leather. The driver can power-adjust its bucket. The new layout of the dashboard comes with orange clusters and dark plastic details.
2018 Toyota HiLux Rogue Drivetrain and Specs
Under the hood of the 2018 Toyota HiLux Rogue is the same engine that powers the rest of the lineup. It is a Duramax 2.8-liter diesel unit. The drivetrain is capable to produce 130 kW and 450 Nm of torque. While the standard model offers a manual transmission, the Rogue version for 2018 comes with an automatic gearbox as the only solution. It is a six-pace transfer case that routes power to all wheels. Combined, the truck returns around 8 l/100 km.
Upgrades of the drive system include a new rear differential lock. The 2018 Toyota HiLux Rogue, together with Rugged X, adds a hill descent control. Drivers will find this feature very helpful, especially during the bad weather conditions.
Also, engineers have tuned approach angles of each of new trim levels. The 2018 Toyota HiLux Rogue will come at 39 degrees. Rugged is at 45 degrees, and Rugged X at 49. Although its corner approach angle is not great as for its siblings, the Rogue is still offering the boost compared to the base SR5 model.
Rugged and Rugged X is more off-road oriented trucks, with higher ground clearance than 2018 Toyota HiLux Rogue. These two are offering more than 250 mm, while the Rogue sits at 216 mm.

The entry SR5 level of the Toyota HiLux in Australia costs 55,000 AUD. For 5,000 more, we can build Rugged. The 2018 Toyota HiLux Rogue and Rugged X start from 67,000 AUD. For all the features it brings the price is not so high. Also, the Rogue is offering too many extra features, so its cost is not going to jump too much higher.
