The manufacturer introduced Tarok in Brazil in 2018, and a few months later, fans saw it at the New York Auto Show. Fans immediately saw the pickup as the competitor to Ford Maverick. The compact segment is yet to be explored by truckmakers. Nevertheless, the COVID-19 outburst spoiled the plans and Volkswagen had to put the production on hold. Meanwhile, other projects jumped into the first plan, and the company is now investing more money into electrification. The 2023 VW Tarok is not canceled.
2023 VW Tarok Specs
Two versions of the 2023 VW Tarok are about to be available. In the US, the truck is going to use a 1.4-liter petrol engine in a combo with a six-speed auto transmission. 150 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque would be more than enough for such a vehicle. The main purpose of the truck is driving through urban areas, making deliveries where big pickups can’t reach. Additionally, the Tarok is more efficient than mid- and full-size pickups. On the other hand, towing capacity is not going to stun you. But, such a vehicle doesn’t need big numbers in this segment.
In the rest of the world, the 2023 Volkswagen Tarok is going to use a 2.0-liter diesel. An oil burner, depending on the configuration, can deliver up to 190 hp. Engineers won’t go so far and the truck will rather be at the same level as a Golf hatchback or Passat sedan.
2023 VW Tarok Release Date
After a setback, the 2023 VW Tarok is back on the map. The pandemic is calming down and the German manufacturer can proceed with plans. Still, the situation is not perfect, since other, bigger truckmakers are not keen on exploring the compact pickup world. For now, only Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz are available at dealerships. Ram and Chevy also have their models, but available in South America, not in the US.
