Ford was experimenting in the compact truck segment. Many experts were not so sure the Maverick would have a success. But, the Blue Oval company proved everyone wrong once again and cemented its #1 spot in the trucking world. Now other truckmakers are developing their small pickups. Next year we’ll see Hyundai Santa Cruz, Ram 1200, Toyota Stout… However, Ford is a few steps ahead.
The company didn’t go too deep into the lineup. There are no as many options as for the F-150 or Super Duty class. One configuration stands out from the rest of the lineup – the 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD. The best thing about this vehicle is the gas mileage. It is hard to find a car, and not a pickup, with 40+ mpg. Hybrid system allows the truck to offer a better fuel economy in urban areas than on the open road. Towing capacity is limited to 2,000 pounds. If you need more, a turbocharged unit doubles it.
2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD Specs
The truck debuted with a hybrid engine, but only a 2WD was available. If you wanted an all-wheel drive, it was an upgrade for a turbo-four system. The truck is using a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated unit as the base source of power and upgrades it with a single electric motor. Combined, this combo delivers 191 hp and 173 lb-ft of torque, tows 2,000 pounds and returns 42/33 mpg. A CVT transmission is a power distribution service.
The 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD is an upgrade for the next season. Numbers should be the same, except that all-wheel drive consumes more fuel. We might see the rating drop under 40 mpg. Some buyers asked and the company granted the wish. However, we don’t know why they need an AWD on the vehicle specialized for urban streets. Off-road capabilities are very limited, and the main purpose is delivering small cargos while saving gas.
The 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD is there to preserve some gas. The alternative is a 2.0-liter turbo-four. This is a totally different approach – the compact pickup makes 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque and tows up to 4,000 pounds. Here FWD and AWD are there right from the debut. Also, a CVT is replaced with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD Grades
There are only three trim levels available for the 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD. We got used seeing a wide choice of options on F-150, Ranger and other vehicles. The compact pickup enters the market with the XL grade. Highlights are steel 17-inch wheels, cruise control, and an 8-inch multimedia display. Safety is boosted by the forward collision mitigation. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard options.
Upgrading the truck to the XLT trim gets you alloy wheels, upscale cloth upholstery, tailgate with a power lock, and armrest in the back row. Not too many options will cost $2,200.
The 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD Lariat is the top trim level. Push button start, zonal climate control, simulated leather, rear USB ports and power-adjustable driver’s bucket are key features this package is adding. Optionally, you can opt for some of the packages, such as Luxury, available for the Lariat model only. Sync3 infotainment, bedliner, navigation, and many more features are there. The 4K towing bundle enhances trailering. Off-road FX4 is available for the turbocharged engine, but if you are an adventurer, then the Tremor is much better option. We would rather recommend upgrading the safety with the Co-Pilot360 package.
The base MSRP for the 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD starts at $22,600. The XLT adds $2,200 and the Lariat is a bigger upgrade, costing $28,500. Turbocharged engine offers more optional upgrades, so its price can get closer to $40k.
The compact truck class is a growing segment at US dealerships. Many were skeptical about Ford’s project, but the leader in this realm proved them wrong. Now, the Maverick is a step ahead of all other rivals that are yet to come. Its appearance speeded up the development of the Hyundai Santa Cruz. We knew it is coming, but no one ever said something about the compact class. We assume that Ford saw through and rushed into the production with Maverick. For now, Santa Cruz is its only rival.
But, all other main truckmakers are developing compact pickups. Ram 1200 is already spied. Fans are speculating about its name. It can also arrive as the Ramcharger or Dodge Ram Dakota. The latest news reported about Toyota’s moves. Stout is their compact truck that should go after the Maverick. Maybe Ford should be worried about this one more. The Japanese carmaker already shows they know a thing or two about small trucks, with their Tacoma leading the market in sales for several years. Also, be sure that GM is there with a response. For now, we don’t have clues, although some fans are mentioning the GMC Syclone.
