It is not a secret that Audi plans to enter the pickup segment. The new info leaked and we found out a few interesting details. Well, the latest rumors confirmed some previous speculations. Audi truck is raising the level of luxury in the class. It will be the light commercial vehicle based on the VW Amarok.
The first renders are available. New images are more realistic than the concept art made by fans. Compared to the VW Amarok, the Audi Truck will be more road-oriented. According to the company, this is going to be the SUCR – Sport Utility Cargo Recreational vehicles. It is first of a kind and in the future, we will see more of these on the road.
Which are Possible Engines for Audi Truck?
The new Audi truck is going to use one of the existing drivetrains. According to Parkers car review, the new pickup is going to use different engines for the USA and European market. The base unit is a 2.5-liter inline-five. Turbocharged, this engine is creating nearly 400 horsepower. We expected a higher output for the model in a premium segment. A seven-speed DCT gearbox, Quattro AWD system, and 355 lb-ft of torque are certain as well.
In other parts of the world, Audi is going to use a diesel unit. Currently, the most likely option is a 3.2-liter V6. This one we can see on the VW Amarok. The engine is capable to produce 260 hp and 600 Nm (440 lb-ft) of torque. Again, outputs are slightly higher for this segment, but again, this is the premium pickup.
Equipment and Accessories
All speculations are pointing that the new Audi Truck is going to be heavily based on the Q7 SUV. However, the teaser photo is also showing some details. Double cab configuration with four doors is standard. The truck will get two or three trim levels, including Premium and Prestige. Both of them are bringing leather interior with three-zone climate control and MMI navigation. We have to wait to see what will the company offer for the tailgate.
The infotainment system is getting numerous upgrades. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. USB and Bluetooth connectivity are available. A ten-speaker audio system can get more speakers through additional packages.
Audi Truck vs BMW Pickup vs Mercedes X-Class
In all automotive segments, Audi has two archrivals. Both of them are from the same country. Whenever each of them makes some move, the other two don’t waste too much time for response. BMW is also developing the pickup. Like Audi truck, it is still a concept.
On the other hand, Mercedes is already producing the X-Class based on Nissan Navara. Well, this is not exactly what we expected from a German carmaker. But, fans believe this is the first step. Mercedes entered the market, and now they will develop their own model. Sooner or later enthusiasts will get a vehicle with Mercedes’ entire design.
Audi Truck Release Date
Rumors are hotter and hotter. However, there is no official statement about the Audi truck. We could wait a bit until the vehicle shows up. Meanwhile, the carmaker could bring the concept to present their idea of a pickup truck.
