Top 10 – Best Pickup Trucks For 2019

Although we are in 2018, many companies already announced new trucks for next season. The central event of the automotive industry, Auto Show in Detroit, unveiled some things we already expected. On the other hand, we found out that many new things and updates are on the way. Ford made a statement with diesel-powered F-150. Other companies had to respond, so next season we will have Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500 with drivetrains using the same fuel type.

Japanese carmakers are updating their offer for 2019, so we could see diesel trucks from Toyota, and a performance-tuned Ridgeline Type R. All in all, the next season will be highlighted with diesel trucks, but we will see few specially tuned pickups and concepts coming during 2019.

1. 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel

Definitely the most interesting model on the list. Yes, F-150 is a legendary truck, and no other model can compete it. The vehicle is durable, reliable, leader in innovations. So it is with diesel engine. Although we still don’t know specs of the drivetrain, many experts and fans claim that 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel is a step ahead of all other models, including Ram 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and its archrival, Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Besides updates under the hood, the F-150 Diesel will get a facelift. Also, revisit of interior will change things up with new features and accessories, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2. 2019 Ram 1500 Diesel

When we talk about truck industry, Chevy Silverado 1500 is usually ahead of Ram’s trucks. But, not this time. In 2018 we had various special and limited editions. However, this was just a calm before the storm. At Detroit Auto Show, 2019 Ram 1500 presented the brand-new drivetrain – a diesel unit. While everyone expected the response from Chevrolet, Ram was faster, and stole the show. We know that Ford is coming with such powertrain, and Ram’s appearance surprised many. Nevertheless, we still need to see how it is going to perform in everyday work. The spotlight is on this model in 2019.

3. 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 New Generation

Usually, it would take the No2 place in such list, but 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 came somehow quietly. The new generation is not helping, although we can see many different trim levels and options, with significant changes and upgrades, the truck is behind new Ram 1500. But, while we expect a lot from its rival, we know exactly what is Silverado 1500 going to offer. There is no doubt that the truck will meet all needs a driver expect. The next-gen Silverado is better than before, but without stunning and unexpected moves made by the carmaker.

4. 2019 Ford Ranger

A return of another legendary vehicle. This truck was very popular some while ago, but Ford decided to discontinue it in the US and Canada. However, buyers in Australia were very happy with it, and the Blue Oval company changed its mind and brought it back to North America. The compact segment is now complete, and 2019 Ford Ranger could get even a Raptor version next season. It is still far-fetched story, as the hybrid truck, but we won’t stop believe in it.

5. 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

We know that GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado are two very similar models. These two are using almost the same drivetrain lineup. Well, the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 is always somehow late behind its sibling. Starting from a premiere, that happened in March, up to engine range, that still keeps the smallest displacement dropped by Chevy. Nevertheless, we can describe 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 as a Silverado in different shell. Of course, this truck offers special and unique drive system and accessories, which are not enough for more than No5 on our list.

6. 2019 Tesla Pickup Truck Concept

Even if 2019 Tesla Pickup Truck appears as a concept, this would be a revolutionary move in this segment. There are plans, and Tesla is always ahead of rumors. The new crossover is almost certain, and next step in the evolution will bring all-electric truck. Semi-truck had a presentation and already in 2017 we could have some hints about the pickup. Nevertheless, we still lack of official info, so this is just another gossip and fans’ long shot.

7. 2019 Nissan Frontier New Generation

Soon after launching the current generation in 2014, Nissan could start a new edition of its compact truck. Frontier is losing battle in the USA, and radical moves are the only solution. With the Japanese carmaker moving the production to North America, the 2019 Nissan Frontier will be better chances. Furthermore, changes that come with a new-gen model will definitely draw attention of fans and experts. Diesel engine is still not confirmed, although we have a Runner Truck concept. Cummins is definitely going to make a unit for this pickup. The only thing to find out is if it will happen in 2019.

8. 2019 Mercedes-Benz X-Class

The X-Class concept truck from Mercedes-Benz exists for a while. However, this pickup was never considered as a production model so seriously as it is now. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz X-Class is more likely than ever. How can we know that? Its main rivals, BMW and Audi also have platforms ready to build a truck on them. Since the X-Class is a step ahead of it, the German carmaker is going to speed up the development. The result will be a premium pickup truck. Fans of the luxurious vehicles will finally get a working mule that is also good for showing off. Well, knowing Mercedes, the pickup will be more a urban vehicle than the real off-road towing mule.

9. 2019 Toyota Tundra and 2019 Toyota Tacoma

The Japanese carmaker definitely gave up from diesel engines for next season. While most of their rivals are out with such drivetrains, due to VW scandal, Toyota decided to pass the next season. Instead, their trucks, full-size Tundra and mid-size Tacoma will get a revisit and a facelift. Also, updated TRD package will include new standard features, which will make these models very exciting and luring. But, that is not going to be enough to compete with US carmakers, and trucks such as F-150, Ram 1500 and Silverado.

10. 2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid

This one is the most uncertain of all above-mentioned models. However, if it appears, it will stun the entire car industry. Rumors are mentioning it, but it is not likely to happen so soon. No one can imagine a plug-in truck yet. But, as we said already – never say never with Ford. The company has an electrification plan for most of its lineup. A couple of the most attractive models on the list are Mustang and the legendary truck. The 2019 Ford F-150 Hybrid could appear as a concept during next season, while production is definitely not starting so soon.

Honorable mentions

On our Top 10 list, there is no room for some other models. Heavy-duty trucks are not included since we will prepare an additional list of popular models in this segment. However, Honda could launch the Ridgeline Type R performance model next season. However, since its popularity is not so high, we couldn’t include it on this list. Also, the Jeep Wrangler could get a new look. Besides the off-road crossover, the vehicle is coming as a pickup. But, its name is not confirmed yet, since the truck could be Scrambler.
